My brother and I are taking a Scoped Precison Rifle course at the Sig Academy this spring. I have no expericance shooting beyond 300 meters. The rifle I purchased is the Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor. I added a Vortex Viper PST Gen II 5-25 x 50 EBR 4-MOA. Added a Magpul PRS. This rifle like most of my firearms shoots better than me. 1 MOA or less out of the box. The challenge is since I reload getting Hogdan H4350 powder. Turns out this is most popular caliber to reload in the last three years and the military contracts are keeping Hogdan from keeping the stores in stock with H4350. I have found four pounds so far. Any how i am real pleased with how well this rifle shoots. Trigger is clean no creep or grittines. Holler if you see any H4350 for sale.

RPR`s in 6.5 CREEDMOOR are a fine rifle for the money and with either light 123g LAPUA SCENARS or all the way to heavier 147g ELDM Hornady`s , you could be surprised on how accurate the RPR is .
The only major thing I did to my RPR was adjusting the trigger weight " heavier " from the out of the box scarier too light in my mind .

good luck finding any of the powder anytime soon , hope you have a great time when you go to the Sig Academy that looks like it's a nice place to shoot .

Just got a RPR in 6.5 CM myself this past year. Very happy with it.
As far as the military controlling a specific powder. The production/distribution doesn't work in a manner that would affect commercial production quite that way. If a company takes on a military contract (or any government contract for that matter), even if the contracted product was the exact same as their commercial product, the company would produce an additional amount above their normal commercial distribution in order to cover both their commercial AND contract supplies. When a company puts in a bit to acquire a contract like this, they look at their ability to produce and what is needed to produce for the contract without taking away from their commercial production. There are many company's that produce for the military that are thriving on the economy. Some of these include North Face, Mountain Hardware, SafariLand, SUUNTO, etc. Even large companies as these would start to suffer if they produced solely for individual contracts.
After all, we are not a country controlled by a military dictatorship...
Besides, try looking around. I can go to my local Bass Pro Shop, or Sportsmans Warehouse and find plenty of H4350. I just checked. 1lb and 8lb cans available.

Hi,

That is absolutely incorrect on various fronts.

1. Government contracts do NOT look at a companies ability to produce what is needed for the contract with anything related to ability to NOT take away from commercial production. All .gov cares about is getting THEIR items; not that xyz company can still supply yours.

2. There are PLENTY times when companies take on .gov contracts that they reduce consumer availability...shit, some even cease .civ sales completely until the .gov contract is finished.

3. Production/Distribution for a .gov contract can and absolutely does affect commercial production on LOTS of things.

Sincerely,
Theis

I ran mine on a 5 day course at MTC straightout of the box with a gen 1 vortex viper 6-24x50 scope. Consistantly had about 1/2 MOA with the Hornady 147 ELD. I have since replaced the handguard with a longer one to push the bipod further out and upgraded my optic. I had no issue with 1st round hits on a steel silhouette at just over 1k yards, but wind calls from my spotter really helped. Great rifle for the price.
