Looking for a gun vise that will handle heavy guns (18-25lbs) while mounting scopes, working on triggers, mounting muzzle devices...etc. The Tipton is great for smaller guns but doesn't hold and collapses with my heavier guns with longer barrels.

I have seen the viper barrel vise but that takes a bit of time to lock it and switch guns.

What are you guys using?

The Viper barrel vise works fine for my applications. Buy an inexpensive electric ratchet wrench with a 3/4" socket and keep it at the vise. Makes for very quick one handed barrel set up.

The SAC Modular Barrel Vise is a bit more expensive and uses inserts, but its one bolt design makes for quick set up. A lower cost version, the Bravo, was recently released. Same footprint, but uses traditional two bolt design.

Super helpful, thank you! I guessing that if you take care not to slide them around, you don't have any issues with marring the finish?

(SAC Modular has been ordered!)

This place is looking more and more like rimfirecentral every day. Dumb asses that ask dumb questions and dumb asses who answer them without reading the original post! I love it!

Any any of these style of vises. Haven't used before. Do the clamps leave marks?
Most barrels I've worked on are bare stainless. Tightened down they won't leave marks. If painted or Cerakoted, you could leave a mark. A layer of drywall paper tape around the barrel will do the trick.

As suggested by SAC, go buy a roll of paper drywall seam tape at Home Depot/Lowes. Will last you forever. Rap a small piece around diameter of barrel and drop it in the vice. No marks on my barrels been using the SAC since its release date
