Cartridge of Choice

I'm not sure what "tactical" rifle matches are. If you mean PRS/NRL style competition the majority are shooting smaller mouse-fart 6BR based cartridges, including those doing most of the winning.
If you mean field style matches involving hike/shoot with lower round count, more prone shooting and a bigger premium on first round hits you see more cartridges like 6 Creed, 6x47, or 6.5 variants.
If you want hard numbers, go look at the "What the Pro's use" articles on precision rifle blog, it breaks it down pretty well.
I have a laundry list of cartridges I mess around with.
But, if I had to pick only one of each size it would be:
.223 ackley
6br
6.5x47
.308
For matches, if I was forced to pick only one, would be 6.5x47. But I like having BR as option.

ive shot a bunch of different cartridges and if i had to pick one it would be the 6BRA...very efficient little cartridge.
Factory:
.223
6cm
6.5cm
.308
There is 6br lapua factory ammo, but it prices itself out of contention.
if you sell the once fired brass it’s right about the same as the others.
that said I’d probably go with a 6.5cm if I was shooting factory ammo only.
I shoot 6.5 Creedmoor and 223AI. For what its worth, PRS website shows 6.5 Creedmoor to be most popular with their members.
