Leupold Gold Ring HD vs Mark 4

Looking for my first spotting scope.
I won a Leopold cert at a match awhile ago and figured this be be the perfect thing to use it for, so I have to order direct.


Can't seem to find any good info on what the differences between the Gold Ring HD and Mark 4 12-40s are. I read the Mark 4 are the military models and have certain coatings that the military wanted but the Gold Ring HD is newer and has better glass? Can anyone that's looked through these confirm?

And is the Gold Ring 12-40s compatible with the BO SLICK mounts?

Mk4's have a laser coating on their glass the GR doesnt, to most the GR with hd glass is better. As for size, dimensioms the same.

I have an HD model. I bought a cover and an ARD marketed for the military mode and they fit like a glove.

You can get the GR HD with the impact reticle only sadly...
