Showed my son how to replace the oven baking element thia morning .
I purchased some new torniquets to rotate stock and the boy was asking about it . He's got a med pouch on his airsoft pistol belt so I set him up with guaze , Kerilax , space blanket and gloves . Gave him a training torniqet and figured he needs to know how to use it . We got a piece of pvc and made a bleed trainer then went from the top . Taught him how to put the torniquet on , pacj and compression wrap a wound . After we worked out . He asked about three weeks ago or so about lifting and would I teach him , so . Today was just push ups pull ups , flutter kicks etc . Wife thanked me for keepin him occupied . Hell we were hangin and hav in a great time . Hah , occupied .

Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, knowing me, I never had children. If I had I would have taught them these things which I consider core issues. Get them right and all else will fall into place.

-"Every action has an equal and opposite reaction", and in the same vein, "You reap as you sow.", so only put out what you want to come back.

-Follow the path with Heart.

-In life you'll meet many people, most are decent, some are snakes, watch your associations because you become like those you associate with. See above.

-You'll have many acquaintances but FEW true friends. You can count those on your fingers, likely on one hand.

Avoid crowds and seek solitary spaces.

Up until about 2 weeks ago we were forced to work 75 hrs a week at the power plant. So I didnt get shit done. The last few weeks I've taken a couple extra days off a week to help with wife around the house with e learning and shit. Got 3 in school and 1 in preschool. So far we've built a little trailer to pull with the quads. Built a bunch of different bird traps (they are infatuated with catching a bird) that they designed. Watched our Saint deliver 14 pups! Get a couple pig pens put up. Lots of gardening. Filled 4 holes in the yard where I had stumps ground out. By hand of course cuz I ain't raising sissies. They did give me this look like wtf when I drove by with the loader tractor.

This week's teachings will include more complex topics like don't wake up your mother early on a weekend morning, and pick up your last mess before starting another. Since those will take several years to figure out, we'll tackle a few shorter topics like AR lower assembly and F250 brake maintenance.

Good luck on teaching the kids not to wake up Mom on weekends . Me and two brothers never learned that lesson . Only it was Dad and he would beat our asses .
Usually had something to do with emulating the early morning wrestling shows ,a destroyed piece of furniture and the loss of a tooth or trip to ER . Could never figure out why Dad got so pissed .

My kids are involved in most of the stuff around the place, there in the shop all the time, they helped a bunch building the house. We're always getting our hands dirty doing something. I want them to be able to go do something for themselves, be self sustaining and know if they want or need something it's up to them to work for it. That and not become pinko commie scum.

That stuff is so important. Working with your kids teaches them a lot more than the object/task at hand. They are learning how to solve problems, how the world works, and maybe most importantly that problems can be broken down and solved. Working with your kids teaches more about character than words. All those pearls of wisdom and lectures of instruction work hand in hand with the practical application, this is rubber meets the road for parents. A chance to demonstrate excellence or reveal hypocrisy.

I have made sure all of my kids were able to do most of the maintenance on their cars/trucks, including my daughter. She has changed her own oil, done brake jobs on her and her boyfriend's car, changed tires for folks stuck on the road too. My boys do all that and have helped me build sheds, decks and additions to my home. If I'm doing something, they're invited to join along. Now that I have a bad knee, kidney disease and old age, it's more difficult to get them to come around, but if they can, they do.

They all know how to shoot, hunt and fish. They all know how to run a boat. I have one son with his private pilot's license. I guess I've done okay with teaching them how to survive in today and possibly tomorrow's world.

I need to teach my youngest son how to use words better. He's one of those kids that anytime he learns a new word he wants to use it as often as he can, but he screws it up more times than not. Such as him instead of saying "defamation of character" he will say "defecation of character". Let's see. I taught my son to bring the ball back to me, sit before he gets his dessert, to walk on my right, and to go to his "apartment" when I needed him out of the way. He also was good at helping me find my lost eyeglasses and reminding me where I set my work ID badge. Sadly he's departed.
