I have wore out the barrel on my Bergara HMR and I’m looking into getting a new production class rifle. I am trying to decide between the the MPA or the Badrock southfork. Has anyone put hands on both? Thoughts? Any other suggestions?

Kind of a toss up. I like that the Badrock uses a Defiance. They are reliable and I have no desire to run AW mags. However, the chassis you get with the MPA is better suited to the game you want to play. If the Badrock upgraded the chassis forend to the ACC (might be possible now, with the new production msrp ceiling), that would be my choice. As it stands, I'd lean towards MPA.

+1 for the MPA solely on the chassis. I actually run one. The Curtis action is very nice and the gun shoots fantastic overall. I've just added a bunch of weight.

I like the way the MPA chassis accepts weight much better, + built in ARCA, which is why I have 3 of them and no MDTs. Now....if Badrock built that rifle on the MDT ACC...well.....that would be a different story maybe. I'm kinda surprised they don't make a gen2 version in the ACC now that they've got $500 more to play with in production.

It’s about a 30° difference.
Tokay wins!!!! LMAO! It needed to be said....

The 60 degree throw is very nice in my opinion. When I shoot my Bergara side by side with my MPA it trips me out when I come back over to the Curtis action with that 60 degree lift. I'm a huge fan of the 60. It doesn't come close to your optic, your fingers are never gonna run in to or rub your optic, etc. That said, nobody's ever really complained about having a bad ass Defiance action that had a 90 degree throw.

I’m waiting for a call back today to possibly place an order and I’ll ask them if they have plans to do this.

Not experienced with either chassis, but could you go on about how they accept weight. I figured it was the opposite of what you said. The MDT ACC can put 5 weights on either side, plus some under the barrel. Looks like the weights from Gray Ops CNC will work with the MPA chassis, but it doesn't look like as much weight.

The ACC can put weights under the barrel and on the outside, correct, but not the mdt chassis that there badrock comes in.

In the end, it comes down to the barreled action and chassis you get with them. Both are going to come with an excellent barrel and trigger.
I would pick the action I want most, as you can always sell the chassis if you don't care for it and move the barreled action to another chassis.

In that case, I’d lean towards Defiance. Thank you for weighing in.

I shot the Bad Rock at the last Precision Rifle Expo and was able to handle the MPA. There's really no wrong answer as they both were excellent rifles with a bit different approach. IMHO the Defiance action on the Bedrock is a step up, but the whole package is really pretty solid and evenly distributed (with regards to very good quality action, barrel, trigger, chassis). With the MPA you are paying for a nicer chassis, with possibly a less quality barrel (but that's debatable as well). I had had a John Hancock on order for a while so was looking at both as a "replacement" for the JH rifle. I ended up putting together my own build (ARC nuke, ACC chassis, LRI and PVA barrels) but I would have been very happy with either. I was heavily leaning towards the Bad Rock when I decided to go custom, but you won't go wrong with either.

That was helpful, thanks man.
