Hello community,
I´m using the Sierra Matchking .264"/142gr. (# 1742) and wanted to put it in my Kestrel LiNK Ballistics.

But in the bullet library, there are 4! profiles from this bullet with different BCs, although it exists only one SMK with 142grains.

Sierra MatchKing
Sierra MatchKing Pointed (I thought they mean "Tipped", but there isn´t a Tipped one with 142gr.)
{PDM} Sierra MatchKing (JKM8MPAD)
{PDM} Sierra MatchKing (AXS000641)

Which is the right one?

Cheers,
Jay

You ALWAYS use the one without a username at the end... When I go to the bullet library I go to .264, then Sierra, then at the bottom you have 2 options for the 142 SMK... Pointed or not pointed. If you arent shooting pointed 142SMK's then you pick the Sierra MatchKing 142gr option. If your shooting pointed 142SMK's then you pick the Sierra MatchKing Pointed 142gr option.....

There are no "Tipped 142 MathKings" that Im aware of. Tipped would be the TMK's or Tipped MatchKings with the green plastic tip. They dont have 142 TMK's as far as I know....

Ah, I saw pictures.

So that means it is a HP, but the tip got "closed" afterwards, right?

Im not sure how else to explain it to you. The older 142 SMK's that have been around for many years did not come pointed. Sierra has now started pointing the 142 SMK's (and other SMK bullets) from the factory... It gives them a higher BC. If you have the older 142's that arent pointed then you choose that profile... If you have the new 142 SMK's that come pointed from Sierra then you choose the pointed profile.....

The pointed SMK's still have a HP... They have a different profile at the tip...Below is a picture of a factory pointed SMK (this is a 22cal 90 SMK Pointed)

You can see the bullet profile changes 1/4" or so below the tip and has a sharp, pointed angle to the tip...

"Pointed" on a CDM entry likely means the bullet was processed with this or similar:

This is incorrect, the Pointed profile refers to the newer SMK bullets coming from the factory pointed for a higher BC. The reason they have a pointed and not pointed profile is because these same bullets have been around a long time and they were not pointed from the factory up until the last idk year or two..... So profiles exist for both for the guys that have large inventory of the older style, non-pointed versions...

Above is a picture of the Sierra 22cal 90 SMK that now comes pointed from the factory... This very bullet has been around for a while and was NOT pointed until recently (last year or 2). The only confusing part is they dont put "Pointed" on the boxes.... Everything is the same as the older version... you just have to know what to look for to know if they are pointed or not.

They shoot 100x better than RDF's... :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I agree, they do shoot good.

5 shots at 100m, .17 MOA is good enough for me.
