Tell me pit dwellers, why don’t you have a boat?

I put my canoe in the water about once every three years because thats about how often the lake has water in it.
I did used to have a boat. But I lost it in a shooting accident.
Fuck. Beat by two minutes.
I HAD one. Second happiest day of my life........
Because I don’t need another hobby that functions as a “hole” in the water I stuff money into.

So, a person tries again, eleventy times, and still the same message. Of course, the 'system' doesn't actually tell you WHAT specifically is wrong,,, just that 'it didn't work'.
And no, I'm not about to bother an 'administrator' over not being able to post a picture. Just frustrating, is all.

Used to chase bass on the amateur side of things. Had a couple of real nice "go fast" bass boats some years back but stopped when all my fishing buddies went through their mid-life crisis and bought Harleys. Like to have that money back. That said, the wife and I got a small Jon boat this summer to go after pan fish. All the fun I can stand!

I have a 14' Lund with a 55lb tiller min-kota. It's dirt cheap.
I know people with big boats for big water. All they do is complain about how expensive their shit is.
Because I live in Cheyenne, kinda dry here. But you already knew that.

I do fish on the rivers around here. Simms waders are a hell of a lot cheaper than any boat. Unlike boats, they don’t require gas, oil and insurance. They do require beer though.........

I had this one uncle that had a few boats. They were all Buicks. 50's era. They'd float right on down the roads.
I can say that ours is a 'good sized' boat. It is plenty big enough for us to live on for up to about a week at a time. (Myself and My Lady) It costs us practically nothing, and is like a 'holiday' without actually having to travel anywhere. AND, it has a motor on it so if we want, we actually can fire it up and take it somewhere else.
Or, we can put it on our trailer and drag it somewhere else, too. Still manageable enough with our truck.
No TSA crap to deal with, no cramped airplanes, and the only complaints about 'shitty room service' would be classed as a "domestic disturbance" HA.

Did once have a boat, it was an 8 man boat....crew. After all the effort me and many others spent to maintain that I would never have a boat. For money pits I have a Harley, guns, ham radio, & want to add a Ducati.
Speaking of money pits, the last Ducati I had, tuneup were $4000.00. Fast By Ferracci sent his son thru Wharton on just my ‘donations’ alone.

Actually, I have no complaints about the boat that I had. 21 foot Seaswirl Cuddy, 4.3 liter Vortec, Cobra outdrive, purchased used, in good shape. Had to put a new motor in it due to not getting all the water out of the cooling galleries when I winterized it. Not the boat’s fault. I spent a lot of time wrenching on it/adding/improving things. Did it all in the driveway and drank a lot of beer. Kind of enjoyed it.
The primary reason I got rid of it was that the wife just couldn’t ever figure out to help getting it ready to go, or to help clean it up after we’d get back from fishing. Oh, and there was a bit of back seat driving that I finally hit my limit on........

Kids are too young at the moment. Once they are a little older I’m getting a wake board boat.

I had 5 different walleye boats in 20 yrs starting mid 80's, i would rather duct tape my nutsack to my leg than pleasure boat. I'd rather do the same when it comes to atv's also.
Boats are barely affordable. Girlfriends ? Definitely not......
And we have a buddy in Cheyenne with one, so we just let him dump the money into the hole in the water for us.
I had a Glastron CVX20 with 200hp Johnson outboard. Had all kinds of friends when it was time to go skiing...... they all disappeared when it was time to fuel it or clean it at the end of the day. That motor burnt 24 gph at full throttle and evening skiing would pretty much deplete the 24 gallon tank.
20 ft sea ray here, no maintenance required except fluid changes so far

The only boat I would want Ill never afford. A 42' ocean going sailboat with a H/Q back up diesel. Maybe Jeff (Bezos) will adopt me.

Ours is a SeaRay too. The big thing about it all, is that if one stays 'on top' of everything, then there's practically no issues. It is when folks don't 'maintain' and/or "keep up with" things that everything gets depleted, used, worn, and broked.
I also have to state unequivocally that ours is more of a 'cabin cruiser' than a 'sports-car that floats'. We just 'bubble' when going anywhere. Not interested in 'gallons to the mile' to get the big beast up-on-plane. I've got NOTHING to show or prove to anyone.
And our time down there on the water is FAR BETTER than any good time 'working on anything'... even if we're simply just using the boat to get closer to our friends place, where he picks us up and we all go to the range. It ain't the destination, its the journey. ENJOY that journey in comfort.
I'm looking for an expired ALUMINUM propane tank, so that I can turn it into a hot-water-tank. This would make our "living on the boat" even comfortabler to have both "hot and cold" running water. And I'm not interested in paying nearly a grand to get one 'factory made' where I can put one together for less than a hundred. WHEN I get my hands on that elusive aluminum tank.

I have a boat. Found a dandy chinook on it this morning. Bag is 48” long. Found one just like it yesterday. One more last weekend. Boats are my happy place.
