Yeah. A brake gives a better recoil impulse for match shooting, as well as is a smaller package. And, if one person on your squad is not shooting suppressed, then you're wearing hearing protection anyway. I'd go as far as to say that most PRS match shooters are shooting brakes, and not suppressors. The only time I'd take a suppressor over a brake for a match is shooting through a culvert, and thankfully, that is a pretty uncommon obstacle...

My hunting rifle has a suppressor on it. So does my “for funz“ 10/22. But my match rifles wear brakes- except for the Kidd super grade which I failed to future proof myself for, by not getting the threaded barrel model. If I had a threaded barrel on that rifle, it would always wear a suppressor...
Have 8. Won't shoot a rifle without one (unless it's my 45 colt or 45/70). Can go shooting prairie dogs w/me without one. Be poors somewhere else.
No. A good can is more pleasant all around, and I won't shoot supers without ears anyways. Hearing safe is to dependant on to many variables when everything is borderline anyways.
We shoot through barrels quite often. Is a favorite of the MD'S because of the stupid obnoxious brakes guys like to run.
Yes, a suppressor gives less noise and less blast, and a suppressor is more pleasant to shoot than a brake. Know your MD, if s/he punishes braked rifles, take that into account. But, you are wrong on one point. A good can will not reduce recoil as much as a good brake. It is easier to spot impacts from a braked rifle than it is from a suppressed rifle. This is just a fact. Some even say that trace is easier to see from a braked rifle. I’m less confident about that. Hell, Area 419 built a can with a brake, because a brake is better than a can for spotting your own impacts. If suppressors equaled braked in performance, you’d see most/all of the top competitors shooting them, but you don’t. You see obnoxious tank brakes...
Bought my first can, a SAS Reaper Ti, about 5 years ago and swore up and down it'd be my only NFA item. Since then I've added three more suppressors, a form 1 AR-15 lower and a form 1 AR-10 lower. One more pistol can and a shorty shotgun and I think I'm good.

Regardless of what everyone else is using, it sure is nice to have a suppressor on your own stick if you're shooting something particularly obnoxious.

Eh, I can spot by own impacts past 200 on my suppressed 6.5 that's only about 12 lbs.
You don't see more cans because people don't want to deal with nfa transport across states that are communist and chance a leo that has zero idea they're legal.
