GO and NOGO , a noob question

Hiders - I hope all are well.

I'm swapping a barrel on an Ultimatum Deadline action, putting on a 223 Proof carbon as a shouldered prefit for the action, as opposed to the barrel nut. As I understand it, the barrel was headspaced for 223 on the Ultimatum action

I got the barrel torqued to 70 '/# with an action wrench and put a 223 bold head on the bolt assembly.

The bolt closes on a 223 GO gauge and closes with some stiffness on the NOGO gauge but wont close on the FIELD gauge.

The bolt head is new, swapped it on the Ultimatum bolt assembly, and I did not remove the ejector in case that makes a material difference. Its possible that chamber is 223 Wylde, I dont know.

Thoughts?

how much is some stiffness? like closes freely no ejector on GO and you have to push it closed on a no/go?

What that means is your chamber is slightly smaller than the no-go. Shoot it.

You should be fine. If it’s bothering you, don’t shoot it until you call the place that sold you the barrel. I’m sure they’ll take care of it.

Anything more than "finger pressure" is smashing the gauge, potentially damaging the machined surfaces. It "passed" the NO GO test.

I was wondering about the smashing thing myself. For some reason I’m thinking it’s best to use the same gauges to check the headspace of the installation as was used when chambering the barrel. I know they should be the same and it would only pertain to the GO gauge but I’m sure that I read that someplace.

the barrel chamber dimensions are probably compatible for a 80-100 ft.lbs. I always split the difference and go with 90, which should be about a .002 crush.

Yes, it's probably fine now, but if it gives you peace of mind I would torque it to 90.

I let it ride and took it out to Field 5. I only had about 30 minutes and got on target fast.

I’m pronouncing it a shooter with 69gr PPU factory.

But, as I said, Noob, so new issue. I used MDT polymer 223 mags and they locked into the KRG W3 and I didn’t think much of it. When I got to the range, I learned that the bolt wouldn’t pick them up and they just jammed. Not to be deterred, I just single loaded. Any one got any insight on adjusting the W3 for mag feeding?

It closed with "force", so your "measurement" with said No Go gauge is incorrect. You "forced" the bolt 1 to 2 thou past the gauge.

If it’s tight on a no go and the gauge your using is in tolerance it’s fine.

To add something to what smoothy said, don’t do that. A gauge is not really squishy like a cartridge is. Stop when you feel any resistance.
