Looking to get a scope for my x bolt hells canyon 300wm.

not trying to completely break the bank. I am looking into the vortex viper hst 4-16x44. Is this any good? Anyone have and like?

will be used mostly for hunting. Shooting to 5-600 yards. Possibly further at the range once in a blue moon.

thank you.

I had one and didn't rate it very highly.
I never had any reliability issues with it and it performed admirably but if it were my money I'd be buying a PST G2.

The eyebox was extremely sensitive at max magnification and the glass wasn't great, it really suffered in mirage and being SFP meant I needed to be on 16x to use anyholds, which lead to some frustrations.

I have one of these scopes. I've had to send it back twice now. The first time was a Elevation problem in that it wouldn't adjust Up or Down. Windage worked fine. After getting it back, it shot very low at 100 to where most of the Up Elevation was used just to adjust it to zero at 100.

Sent back, seems to work ok for now.

I had one and for the price I would say it was decent. The 6-24x has the super tight eyebox, I think the 4-16 is ok. Glass is good not great. Zero stop and parallax adjustment is there, so what's not to like?
I used it on two rifles, did a lot of range shooting and a few competitions with it. Never had an issue with it, sold it on another forum and the buyer was more than happy with it.

I have that exact one for sale. I have 4 of them. I sold the rifle it was on and now can't afford anymore rifles so I am going to sell it. They have been great scopes for hunting. The Zero stops work fairly well and it doesn't wash out the sight picture under illumination and I can actually read my reticle under illumination.

As there are no illumination on the HST models of scopes, I can only wonder what scopes that you are trying to flog?

I have a 4-16 and I'm not thrilled with it. The mirage is terrible, parallax adjustment is almost inop and the tracking gets worse each time out. Not recommended. Once it gets replaced by vortex it will be on a 22 or truck gun. Way better options these days imo

Zero issues with mine. I’ve bounced it around several rifles in some quick detach rings over the years and has always returned to zero. Also tracked well out to 1,000 yds on my .260 Rem. I’m surprised with so many unfavorable reviews. Good little scope for what it is.

I have multiple viper hs 4-16x44 scopes. They are good scopes for a hunting rig. Glass is decent, not great. I have never had issues with tracking, but I don't shoot most of them past 300 most of the time (have shot one out to 1000, worked fine). The difference between the hs and hst is mostly turrets. I prefer capped turrets for a hunting gun. The hs can be found for less than $400 regularly, and for that price it is good. I wouldn't pay north of $500 for it.
