I dont think there's alot of surpruse going on! Maybe surprisingly consistent disappointment
I about went to college @ USL in Lafayette in the late 70’s
Kinda took me by surprise when I heard the locals calling each other Coonasses.
They took pride in it, plus they party and eat with the best of anyone , anywhere.
ONLY reason I didn’t go there was it was hotter and as humid as Vietnam or the Philippines where I had come from. Love the culture , people, and food !
As they say.... “laissez les bons temps rouler” !!
I was fortunate to be able to travel to Ireland a few years back. I love their attitude about beer and whiskey. Whiskey is an Irish word meaning water of life. It was a great experience visiting Ireland, having Irish ancestry.
French (1790s)/Cajun ancestry, originally from southeast Atchafalaya River Basin, I settled in Virginia after military retirement; family in West Baton Rouge Parish and Lafayette to Lake Charles area. My wife makes me bring two ice chests whenever we visit - local meat markets and Tony's Seafood (Baton Rouge) treat me like a king because of the $5-600 worth of food I transport back to Virginia and volume of crabs/crawfish I buy for the family fête and bouchère.
Our local range years ago sponsored the Cajun Nation bench rest match( I think that’s what they called it?) folks from every where came, it was huge!
Maybe we should have like Cajun Hide Shoot! Food, Food, drinking and just a good old time?

Let me be clear, I don't blame anyone for not taking a $100K+ vehicle down a trail for some Rocky Mountain Pin Striping. Let alone bashed fenders and dinged rocker panels. It's just a juxtaposition that such a capable vehicle probably shouldn't be beaten the hell out of.
Now, do you have any trail pics I can drool over?

Agree. Well said. Also, it’s called motivational PICS, but nobody complains about the people who just have to comment (no pic), and it gets watered down with a bunch of comments by people who like to hear themselves talk. It’s like people talking in a movie theater, nobody cares, came to see the pics. And yeah, the jerking off argument, how dumb. More pics of all kinds and less comments I say. Legal pics of course. Then if someone is lonely or needs to talk or prove how smart or awesome they are or enjoys hearing themselves, make another thread?

Life can be as "normal" as you want to make it. I did two trips to Texas this year, and hunted 4 different ranches. Still have multiple trips planned to Alabama in January/February.
My employer's work from home decision didn't impact how I spent my personal time.
If there's a Hide shoot in Cajun Country, count me in.
So....as a show of support for members who may be from a foreign land 
where everything tries to kill you..while being inverted....I got this fancy bottle/can koozy thingy at Camp Perry many, many, years ago. I have not used it for fear that it would get beat up if I were to (possibly...maybe..) fall down or something like that while using it. I spoke with a few of the team shooters, I don't remember what part of that foreign land they were from, but it was a pleasant conversation and it seemed we were contemplating the same things....wind....elevation....wind....wind....

Just end up as another tax break for the sponsor. Your idea would have some interest if they knew it was win win.
Years back the Aussies came and competed at Camp Perry for the High Power matches. So I started to see Aussie Army stickers all over post! Hummers, barracks, mess hall, the pits every fucking place. So I asked my buddy who was on the Army Reserve team how many Aussies were there? Looked to be 20-30 by all of the stickers. He said there was only one guy there! I almost fell down laughing, I met the guy the next day, you would swear he could conquer the whole world singled handed. Was a great guy, laughed my ass off with him.So....as a show of support for members who may be from a foreign land
