Just purchased a Ruger precision rifle in 308. I am wanting to get into longer range target shooting and reload for this. However right now it is impossible to find most anything gun related. I have a some Varget powder and some small rifle primers on hand. Going to be shooting at 500-800 yards and was going to buy some small rifle primer 308 brass then load with what I have.
1) Any problems with this line of thinking small primer brass and Varget powder with heavier bullets?
2) Which bullet weight should I be using with this combo for best long range accuracy ?

Thanks

you may want to consider the Sierra 168 Gr TMK which has a higher BC the regular MK
The Sierra 175 Gr MK or TMK or the Hornady 178 Gr BTHP Match will get you out to 1K easily

I shoot the Sierra 175gr HPBT MK with Varget in my .308. Works fine out to 1000. How heavy a bullet are we talking?

I shoot the same load/charge of H4350 in my 6.5cm with both small and large primer Peterson brass. So I wouldn't think it would matter that much.

You also might want to try Berger 185 gr Juggernauts. Once upon a time you could even get them loaded in FGMM factory loads. Easy to tune and very good at the long range game.

The SRPs will work just fine. Lapua had been making 308 Palma brass for quite a while with good results.

As for bullets, see what you can find, but I'd run the bullet/estimated velocity in Berger's Stability calculator and see how they would play together first.
