I am getting ready to mount an older Leupold 20 MOA MK 4 scope base to my Remington 700P SA and don't have the Torx screws. I know they are 6-48, however what length do I need?

Thanks in advance !

Buy a torx screw kit. It will come in handy in the future. You can always use a longer screw and cut to length. I generally do this to get the best thread engagement possible

I hold the screw in a small bench vise and cut with dremel with cut off wheel. Then a small file to clean up the cut

Usually I’m able to find a screw from the kits I have to work. But in the past I have cut the front screws on bases where the screw would engage the barrel threads before tightening down

easiest way on small smaller screws is to buy and nut as well.
put the nut on first
chop off
unscrew/take off nut
it cleans the threads up on the way off
30 seconds and your done

or take a few minutes with a small file and follow the threads

Also when you clamp the screw down, you clamp onto the nut, don't ruin the threads higher up with your vise/wrench.

Need more clamping area? Stack up 2-3 nuts!
