If any one that bought one of the 70 or so “down-keyed” but full power Raptar (NOT ES) units from Wig’s late summer/fall group buy is changing direction, wanting something different, let me know.

I *might* have one I can part with. Full kit, never mounted, already UNLOCKED to Full Power.

Paid $3200 for it, plus $500 Unlock Fee, plus about $300 in back and forth FedEx fees.

If I sell it, I’d probably want to get $4500 for it.

Hasn’t seen more than 20 minutes of power-on time... probably less. Just to check / confirm FP Unlock.

Which ones can be unlocked? What does full power enable?

There were two different Group Buys. The first one was the $3K GB for the retail units like the one you referenced. It came in a pretty box. Those units are hard “locked” to Eye Safe IR output. The LEDs are fixed low-power. There’s nothing anyone can do to change that.

The second GB was for an Agency order overrun of actual full power units. The FP units ship with a key that can be used to lock the unit into low power / eye safe mode, primarily for training purposes so you don’t accidentally blind someone. These units shipped in a Multicam pouch with Wilcox QD mount, but were locked into low power mode and the keys were not shipped with the units.

There are a handful of people out there with keys, so they are able to unlock them in a few SECONDS and charge varying amounts of money to do so.

The ES Raptar laser illuminator is notoriously anemic and sucks something awful. It’s barely usable for very short ranges. The unlocked “Full Power” illuminator is good for very long ranges, even beyond 1km when the beam is narrowed.

The Raptar laser is adjustable, so if you don’t need full power, you can dial it down, and then dial it back up when needed.

Many people, if not the majority, simply want the unit for the rifle-mounted LRF. The .CIV available Raptar S/ES is the high-end unit with the AB solver, which retails for >$8K, but it too is low power and cannot be unlocked. The full power units are not available to civilians except through aftermarket / gray market channels in very limited numbers. So the allure of this second GB, where a total of 70 “unlockable” units were made available, with full factory support/service, was a very rare opportunity to get a legit FP unit at a reasonable price.
