Problems shipping a rifle

Had a slight mix up purchasing a rifle from the buy-sell-trade. First I'd like to say it's honestly my fault and the seller has been amazing. He gave me a good price, answered my endless questions and walked me through everything i needed to do to have the gun mailed.(my first time buying from a private party online)

Anyways I had trouble with paypal and it wasn't letting me send the full amount. I got my sister to send the money for me with her paypal account which has our business account linked(my brother-in-law and I are co-owners of our business).

I forgot to tell the seller about what all happened and didn't think about it have his info on there. when I woke up I seen the seller had sent me a picture of the shipping receipt informing me it was on the was to my FFL location I chose. Turns out he had put my brother-in-laws name on it and also used that name on the copy of his driver license to transfer.

Anyone have any experience with this or know what needs to be done to fix it?

Usually just communication with the FFL.

Did this once, buying a pistol for a good buddy.
FFL said “sure, just lemme make a note”.
He went in, did 4473, and had his pistol.

I tend to wonder if the names handwritten on papers in the box dont matter. Just what is logged in the books.

I could be 100% wrong too, but it was an easy fix at my FFL.

Basically a non issue.

FFL will log into his A&D the information from FFL / individual firearm came from.

Whomever fills out the 4473 is what gets recorded in the A&D for permanent record.

Info the sender put on the papers going to FFL were to aid in it making sense on whom to contact that their item came in. Little communication with the FFL doing the transfer goes a long, LONG ways.

You could go into the store with your brother in law and he could tell them he wants to do a private party transfer. Worse case scenario, he does a 4473 and they transfer it to him and then he does a private party transfer to you, you fill out a 4473. That way the chain of custody is established and no one starts throwing around the term "straw purchase". Ultimately it's up to the FFL holder to abide by the regulations and determine they are doing what is legal. Often they can just call their local ATF inspector and ask what they should do if they have never dealt with that situation.

They left on the 10th to stay with his family in virginia for the holidays. Noway I could wait till January haha. I'd just have him grab it for me otherwise.

I had introduced myself when I called to ask if they would receive from a private party. He seemed like a laid back guy . It's a small place. They mainly sell and repair lawn mowers and other small engines so hopefully he will remember me and my name.

That's good to hear, if it's just something that simple I should be good. I wasn't more worried about possibly I rule or law they had to follow. I remember being refused a fishing license because I had just moved and hadn't updated my address on my driver's license. Thought something I like would happen.

That the answer I was looking for. I worried it was logged in permanent records or something all ready and would have to jump through hoops to get it all straightened out.

The seller already said hes going to call them tomorrow and let them know so I should be go to go when it get there Tuesday. I can go back to being excited again lol.

Thanks

It was crazy easy.

There was no straw buyer question as they know me, and know I buy plenty of guns from them or have stuff shipped in.
I used to teach some classes for them too, so that probably helps.

But yeah, small shop should be easy to sort out.

Okay to get excited again, just keep in mind that it is going to be what the FFL is comfortable doing, that makes most sense to him. FFL has responsibility to make sure laws are being followed and there isn't any illegal actions.
Like I said, little communication goes a LONG ways.

Regardless, will be pretty straight forward even if there needs to be two 4473s filled out, as described by Fisher T&C. I don't see where that would be needed but my opinion means less than nada. FFL doing transfer, his opinion matters the most at this point.
