Hey guys,

This is a hair all question, but figured I don’t know the answer and one of you might.

I have a Tikka T1x in a KRG bravo with a Vortex Viper PST Gen2 on the top. The set up includes a backbone mounted NV bridge from KRG.

I do not currently own any NV, and would like to. In the next 3-5 years I want a set of binos for run and gun type stuff, be it matches or hunting hogs from 4x4s. I also want a clip on for my big boy center fire rifles.

At this point I would like to get my feet wet and set something up on this rifle without spending 15k. If anyone has any insight, I would appreciate it.

Thank you

MM

Any suggestions for a clip on NV or thermal for use on a .22lr precision rifle?

I am new to the game on this side of it, and while I don’t want to spend 15k I am also not looking to cheap out and spend $300 and be disappointed…

Used PVS30, PVS24 or PVS27 would do you well. PVS30’s are heavy, built like a tank and are $4k and up. Same for the PVS27’s (except more ergonomic) but they seem to be a little more expensive.

@Surgeon_Shooter will retube your PVS27 down the road with a high spec unfilmed tube if you’d like and that’s about as good as it gets. Not sure if he’s done work on PVS24s but the PVS24 is more of a 6x clip on where the 30 and 27 will do more like 12 to 18x depending on the moon.

24’s seem to be $3500 and up last I saw. If course the 24LR’s can be had in unfilmed and are more like $10k.

Thermals are getting crazy good for the price too. The ones to beat are the Hogster C (ok from what I’ve heard) and Yoter C which seems to have a lot of love for the price ($5k or so). I think one of the vendors on here is doing a Black Friday sale on the TigIR’s and those are sweet too

Thanks for the shout out my friend!

Yes I work on all clip ons that are good quality and sell all clip ons that are good quality. That being said, ATN, Armasight or any other “Affordable” clip on isnt something I would recommend.

I have a Pvs-24 that I built, mounted on my .22lr as we speak! It’s my skunk/Armadillo gun. They are about as lightweight as it gets, perfect magnification range for a .22LR and great ergonomics. From L3 with the thin film green tubes they are about a 6x max optic. If I re tube it with a high spec tube they can usually get up to 10x pretty comfortably. I’ve had a couple customers claim 12x but I think they’re stretching it a bit. Part of that is because of the better tube, part of that is because I spend a lot of time to perfectly set the prism focus. It’s a pain to set perfectly but worth the effort.

If you have any questions feel free to call, text or message me. I’m always available so anytime is good for me.

Thanks

Of course! Love the stuff I’ve gotten from you and enjoy the technical conversations.

How does that 24 compare to a 30/27? Over a pound lighter but is the 13 deg FOV noticeable? I find the 30 is enough to support 3x before it starts to tunnel. I was watching raccoons mingle with cattle at almost a mile last night with the moon we had:D

@meestermeetch i would suggest getting something that will eventually meet your full power rifle needs unless you just want to spend money (which is ok too!) For me, that was a PVS30 but a 24, 24lr or 27 very well could be a fit too.

It’s a whole different animal. It’s apples to pecans really lol.

Yes the FOV is noticeable, very noticeable imo. Long range clip ons can be hard to hunt with because the lack of FOV if your not used to it. The 24 with an Elcan or 4x32 Acog is a super nice little setup. Throw a 1-8 short dot on there behind it and your in business!

Thanks again for the kind words buddy!

I ran a 30 on my Rim-x for a while...that summabitch was heavy and was best for me in a static position. Fun as hell though.

I snagged a Thermion 2 a few weeks back, yet to mount it but it should shed some weight on my bolt gun configurations. Really wish I kept my lefty 452 as an even lighter dedicated night setup , me and my great life choices..
