I have always enjoyed Rush I suppose because they were a bit different and unique.
So I'm eating my Breakfast burrito this morning listening.to the song Tom Sawyer. I noticed something today that I never really caught before. In the first part of the song Getty Lee is not completing the words he is singing.
Rent
Arrogant
Defense
Events
I never noticed this and it's probably nothing significant.I'm just kinda obsessive and its driving me crazy now.
I know you'll go listen...

He is just trying to match the phrasing of the syllables in each line, of which there are 7 syllables in each phrase.

And making rent and arrogant rhyme...

Same with defense and events

Just some basic poetry shit

You know way back when moving pictures came out I thought it was kinda cool but never really appreciated it until more recent years. Kinda the same with Pink Floyd. I had a friend who thought they were the greatest and had records and tee shirts. The music is really strange in a way but I like it much more as I appreciate the artistry later in life.

Its almost prophetic that Tool Released Fear Inoculum... right before the rona. Waited 13 years to release an album right before a major media shit storm on sickness hit...

I can get down on just about everything Claypool touches too.

My son plays drums, but listens primarily to rap. He plays by ear, so as any good dad would do, I gave him Zeppelin and Rush albums to learn from.….

He surprised me one day with Dazed and Confused. One of the best days of my life….
Went over to pick up a buddy for whatevers back in the day. He was a drummer. Lived in the basement of some divorced dad and his teenage son. The father/landlord answers the door and tells me Greg is downstairs, where he lived, and I start heading down there. I hear Rush playing very loud but something's not 100%. I get downstairs and my buddy is playing Rush on his headphones, only headphones, while practicing. That's when I knew he was a really good drummer.

Bender got banned and now I know why. How can you not like the Beatles OMG 😳 hahaha. And some of these comments about RUSH make me wanna cry. RUSH is a great band just like YES. Lol…bet if you don’t like RUSH you must hate YES. LOL 😂

RAP doesn’t even cross into my realm. I think the only rap I’ve ever heard a whole some of was “grand master flash”

It’s like a jungle sometimes. I don’t know how I keep from goin under

I remember that on the early 80s in like 6th grade when joe Biden bused me into the hood

Gotta get him an electronic set, we moved into a small townhouse without much room plus neighbors complain…
Been playing since I was 8 bought my first electronic kit at 30, should have bought one in my teens. Great to get by so you dont annoy neighbors, but its just not the same as acoustics, little to no feel, especially on the cymbals and hihats. It takes 3-4k to get a solid kit that tracks well, but even them I’d rather play on acoustics.

I have the Alesis Dm-10( low end) and use it as a midi controller for a drum plug in on my mac, which sounds sooo much better than the sounds in the DM-10 module. Nowadays I use a real hi hat with the electrics because I got tired of dealing with the poor tracking on the hi hat.

I have never found a digital high hat that can keep up with really fast intricate rhythms.

what’s really cool about the digitals as you can program different sounds so if you’re trying to match sounds to specific songs you can have different program settings to where your drums sound nearly identical to what you’re trying to replicate or create your own sounds .

Disagree a little bit, roland had a set that that felt very much like a regular set.

Somebody at 1 time made a transducer that you could actually put on a regular set, it silenced the sound significantly and send a signal to a midi controller.

Had an electric set years ago, Yamaha DTX 2. A lot of fun but playing on playing on those rubber pads sucked compared to playing on a real set... They were also kinda delicate... Can't tell you how many of the pads are broken. But the ones being made these days are freaking awesome...

The set was played through a Rolland KC150 keyboard app… that fucker was much louder than any regular drum set...lol.

As far as Rush, man they had it all. Drums, guitar, vocals. While I tried to play the drums, my heart and Passion was really in the guitar… never could really keep up with them... truly an awe inspiring band.

Ok, I gotta know: can you play camera eye entire song on drums? How bout the whole reign in blood album?

I used to never be able to pick a favorite rush song but I think camera eye would be itt.

I liked clockwork angles. But if I’m being honest I really like all thier records from grace under pressure down to the first album. After power windows back in the later 80s they kind of fell out of the groove, but always great in concert

Technically yes, I’d just have to sit down work with it, never learned it. Red Barachetta was my favorite. When I went through my Rush phase I had amix CD that a friend of mine made and those are the ones I played along to.
