TRG appreciation thread - Part III

Did not hear anything about the classic models being taken out of production. At least they seem to be not as dumb as AI concerning this part.

The old models are up to anything you might want to throw at them. I have been favouring the AI for a long time and am now even considering selling them due to the performance and comfort i get out of my TRGs.

The TRG is the perfect hybrid of weight, accuracy and ruggedness for me these days.

If they ever discontinue them i immediately get another TRG 22 just in case.

Buying all available spare parts seems a bit excessive. The A1 models are the same old action in a chassis, so parts should be available for a long time.

I haven't heard of many firing pins breaking, but do as you wish. Buy a "bolt stop kit", an "extractor spring kit" and you're set.

Why the bolt stop kit? Only thing I could think of breaking is the retaining pin?

How many rounds do you think a TRG can take until it falls apart? There are AWs with 20 barrels on. Just curious on how long such a rifle will last. Personally i think they are more or less indestructible apart from the barrel and maybe the bolt?

Bit of a foolish question but I’m looking at Sako’s oem 3 ring (34mm Low) mount
Specifically looking at S151F972.

Will I need any other mounting hardware other than this mount and the factory pic rail off? Seen several sites/forums say its pic rail, others say special mounting. Thank you

If you mean this mount, it will attach directly to the action rail. I would go with a Spuhr or something similar over the Sako mount. It’s steel and each ring is attached to the base with a screw/bolt.

Just ordered the last ST-4808, its a bit tall but only option I could find left out of my trusted spots. Should be about the same or slightly lower than what I have had set up initially with the low pro rail and 1.5” mount. If not, I have a printer and extra carbon fiber filament at work to make a few spacers.

if those 3 rings come down in price to 350-400 Id cope one just for aesthetics. As they just look right.

Prefer 308 aswell since i am prone to flinching with bigger cartridges after a while, takes some practice to master my 300 winmag and 338 lapua.

However, would be great to shoot the king of 2 mile with that rifle. Apart from that it will be a big waste of money for me i guess🤣

Do you shoot that comp? Fly from Germany? Serious man!

As the 62 is not the M10 system maybe it’ll be just at AI levels of cash. I’ve been inured to that price, unfortunately!

We have comps like that in France aswell! A bit closer than the US fortunately. Would never spend that much money on a custom but that might do the trick. Depends on final pricing though. I am curious if they are going to offer factory ammo....

The action? Probably almost infinite. It’s cold hammer forged and doesn’t see a lot of stress.

I think this gun will be 10k+ in the US. Sako/Beretta probably see people buying $13k AX ELRs and want a piece of that action.

Are you asking about barrel life? Or the chassis, action, trigger? I shot out a factory 26” 308 TRG22 in less than 5000 rounds. All hand loads of 168-175 class bullets with moderate velocity loads (never any sign of pressure), slow ish shooting rate, cleaned often and properly. The rifle was 1/2 MOA or better for its life, never copper fouled, cleaned quickly, zero PIO shift cold bore, minimal cold clean bore, etc. then one day it opened up. I checked the load and all was good, until I measured throat erosion and compared it to the last time I had checked (with a 308 I check every 1K or so). It had jumped over 0.100”, velocities dropped off and accuracy fell off.

This was the only TRG factory barrel I took from new to dead, the rest of my TRGs either were sold or traded in good condition or had Bartlein barrels & 1 Rock Creek. It’s is just my sample of 1…

I have seen Stef Ber post pictures of King of the 2 Mile in France with Victrix rifles and some others. Did Poland hold a KO2M?

Did anyone notice improved accuracy when moving from the classic TRG models (not the A1) to a M10?

My old TRGs are 0,25-0,5 with factory Lapua ammo. Cant really see any possible improvement tbh. I ordered the M10 anyways to try out but will take 6-12 months to arrive.

Just curious....

The ergonomics when handling a M10 were great, just had to give it a go.

Since i am thinking about getting a folder for one of my classic TRG 42 i could need some help.

Is it possible to remove that leg/monopod or is it fixed in place?

Did anyone try to use a M10 cheek piece instead of the one of the classic folder? I like the ergonomics way more....

The krg is no option since its almost as expensive as the original folder in germany. Would lkke to stay with sako anyways.

i love the ergonomics of the classic stock but sometimes i miss an option to quickly adjust LOP etc.

That center column is usually impossible to really lock down and is thus responsible for wobble (camera or rifle).

That’s why you see them only on consumer-grade tripods, when quick height adjustment is the absolute priority, or in specialist rigs in which there is no other way to get the (camera) shot (close-ups of bugs/flowers).

If I were you, look at RRS or similar tripods. They mostly don’t have center columns for a reason.

Yeah i know, its what i got first and at the moment i am looking for RRS. Those rigs are about 2500-3000 Euro though in germany.

At the moment there is a discussion to ban semi-automatic rifles. Thats why i decided to put my money there first before its too late.

Getting some proper tripod next year.

I am not using the center column due to the instability you described anyways. That way i get very few wobble.

would like to get a gamechanger aswell. Think i prefer the hog saddle though. Just trying what everyone is talking about😆

I get it. That’s what I would do too. I didn’t even know semis were legal in Germany.

I use a RRS Vyce with my rifles that I can’t feasibly (or bear to aesthetically) attach an Arca plate to. That Vyce thing is amazing…not quite as stable as direct Arca, but pretty close.

I narrowed it down to this one...delivery will take up to 7 months but oh well...dont think i could do much better with different stuff?

This feels like moving from a bicycle to a Lamborghini 🤣

I dont have arca rails on my rifles, will stay with the hog saddle or some kind of bag for now.

I have that exact setup, plus a TVC-33 mk2 with the rrs leveling head. Upon the 33 I attached a pan head (a FLM PR-15 from Germany) that has an integrated screw Arca clamp. Might be discontinued?

The 33 is also nice in that there is less stuff to unlock/lock, but it doesn’t pack as small as the 34.

I must admit, for the stuff I shoot (small varmints, pdogs & smaller ground squirrels), I greatly prefer the 33 with the pan head. I often don’t fully lock it off. It’s nice to have two independent controls for tilt and pan.

For me, the anvil is good for static stuff, but panning is not its strong suit. Others seem to make it work for what they do, not sure how.

Guys i might be able to snatch a MMRS rail for a TRG 42. I know those are almost impossible to buy these days, however i have a few concerns.

On pictures it seems like the backbone is way longer than usually. Resulting in the bipod staying in a position where i cant even reach it when prone?

I am also concerned about the balance of this system.

If anyone has first hand experience about the MMRS rails i would be glad if you could share them.
