Bear Pit Thread About Bears.

I was just traveling here in CO.
Just above 8500 ft far from any crowds.

Saw 4 bears in 3 days.

A great blonde one. Very light coloring. Beautiful. Probably 4 yrs old. Want this one for a rug……
A jet black one about same size.
2 yr old smallish black, very dark.
A huge black one. 350-400 lbs easy. Also want this one. 😎

Trash was cleaned up and secured well.
They still got around food areas.
And were looking for mule deer fawns that are dropping right now in the area.

And people have died getting struck by lightning shit happens. Fuck I had factory ammo blow a gun up (s&b). I didn’t stop shooting. Just cuase it happened to that one guy that one time doesn’t mean their not scaredy cats. I’ve had does attack me, and I don’t think I’m outa line calling them scaredy cats

Yeah but I have zero chance to counter a lightning strike while I can counter an aggressive bear. I mean I’ve only ever seen 3 bears in the woods, one I killed and 2 I played peek-a-boo in the dark with on the way to my stand two days later.

Same with coyotes, only ones I’ve ever seen were doing Mach Jesus past me but that didn’t stop one from squaring up to my wife and dog on a walk two weeks ago. Had my dog not been on a leash or my wife more timid it very well could have killed my dog or attacked my wife.

Black bear predatory attacks are absolutely gnarly.

Most of the times they are pussies. But when they want to eat you...

It’s all fun and games till you are the statistic, lady didn’t want to hurt the bear while CFW was too busy not caring enough to do their job and the lady got ate in her own house as a result.

Personally I worry about bears less then 2 -legged predators, but a bear that wants to eat you is not something to trifle with.

I grew up in bear country (predominately grizzly) in Canada. Encountered many in the wild, haven't had a bad experience (yet).

But all it takes is one time, when a bear wants to eat you. And black bears do occasionally feel the need to eat humans, and those attacks are vicious.

These days I'm planning on carrying a 9mm with 147 grain hard cast rounds. Mostly for humans (lots of weird shit happens in the woods), but would be suitable to fend off lions and bears if needed.

FIFM. 15 + 1 rounds of Underwood.

Yeah 200 grain 10mm is definitely more suitable for brown bear country.

I live in the desert, far away from grizz country now. If I was in grizz country, a 10mm would be much more optimal.
No grizzlies or browns here, but the occasional 400 lb.+ black bear is enough to get my attention.

My office is in downtown Atlanta on the 25th Floor. I carry Underwood 200 grain XTPs, 1250 fps. Everybody who asks gets the same answer. It's for black bears. Can't be too careful. What if one rides the elevator up to the 25th floor?

Cats scare me way more than bears but you’re not wrong, you come up on the right bear you’re in for a long day… or short?

Big cats are terrifying.

Thankfully they are easy to kill. Hunters kill them all the time with .22 mags.

Yeah the upper part of North America lucked out on the big cat lottery, our big ones died off long before modern people got here. Mountain Lions and Bobcats are push overs compared to Jaguars, Leopards, Lions and Tigers.

This cat walked by me at a range of six feet and never knew I was there. I have always wondered how many predators I have walked by without knowing.

In the upper left quradant of the picture there is a white spot. That's me about a half inch left of the white spot.

I was hoping a color phase black bear would cruise by looking for dinner which didn't happen and I had no use for a dead cat.

How viscous is he?

Really depends on which meat grinder setting you use for making your bear sausage.

BEAR SAUSAGE INGREDIENTS

  • 3 pounds bear, washed, dried and diced
  • 1 pound boneless pork shoulder butt, diced
  • 2 tablespoons kosher salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons sweet paprika
  • 2 tablespoons fennel seeds, toasted
  • 1 tablespoon coriander seeds, toasted and crushed
  • 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1/4 cup red wine wine
  • 3/4 feet hog casings, soaked and rinsed

DIRECTIONS

After weighing the meat, dice the meat so that it will easily fit through the grinder, about 1-2 inch cubes and set aside in a large bowl. Using a separate bowl combine and mix all dry seasonings. Add the seasonings to the meat being sure to coat all pieces. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
You will want to use the small die for processing. Remove the attachments from the grinder and place in the freezer for 30 minutes before grinding. This will help to ensure that the pork and the bear meat combine perfectly together. When ready, grind all of the meat mixture through the grinder. Add the cold water and wine to the sausage grind and mix well. Set the bowl of ground eat into the refrigerator while you change out you attachments.
Setup your hog casings on the grinder stuffer attachment and start stuffing the ground sausage into the casings. When done, either measure the size of the links that you want and twist or leave whole. Using a small pin, prick the sausage to help release air. Refrigerate or freeze when done.

Trophy hunter, Satanists, or Bigfoot?
DNR or Park Service. The headline was a fair amount of clickbait. I was a bit incensed when I first read the headline, but as I read the article, I said “awww, makes sense now”.

Tough choice, but they did what they had to do. If anything, in this day and age, I’m kind of surprised they actually did it.

Problem bear, it had to be done.

What didn't have to be done was decapitating him, cutting his paws off, and leaving him in the river. Why not have him butchered and donate the meat to a homeless shelter or something?

ETA: Would have gone over much better with John Q. Non-hunter.

Not Bigfoot, humans. And humans suck.

The same human excrement that poach Mountain Gorillas and cut off their hands. Those turds are tracked down and shot on sight by park rangers.

.gov? maybe it would have been impossible or too costly for the bureaucracy to approve it for consumption.

Unless they've been on a steady diet of berries, I always heard bear meat is disgusting and on the non edible list with big wild boar hogs, especially if they've been on a steady fish diet.

I've handled enough nasty hogs, I take their word for it.
