North or south of DC? Many years ago we used to fish for small mouth in the Potomac just south of the Blue Plains treatment plant!! Launched from GW Pkwy on VA side. Lots of fish, used spinners and plastic worms....but of course we wouldn't try to eat any of them (I think they'd glow in the dark haha).

You eat the blue cats you catch in the Potomac?

we don’t eat them, we fish on the va side from DCA to occoquan, occasionally in the tidal basin. We haven’t done much bass we should try. Shad are fun and about to be here here’s a couple more. That’s about the biggest carp I’ve seen

I used to think that carp were only good for bowfishing. I was wrong, that is a fish that is sporting as hell. Your tackle and the type of knots you use need to be dialed in when going after them.

Here’s my only catch this year so far; also the only time I’ve been fishing this year. Mixed Lakers and Coho from Lake Michigan. The biggest Laker was 33”. I’m not sure why people turn their noses up to Lake Trout, these were mild tasting and good dusted in Old Bay and pan fried as well as smoked after brining. They actually were better than the Coho. Check out the size of fish they eat, explains why they like big spoons.
