Frank Zappa

Wow. Superb. I grew up on his usual radio stuff, but compositions like this seemed to not get air time.
I don't think I've ever heard Watermelon in Easter Hay on the radio... Which is amazing.

This is one of the greatest guitar solo's ever written/performed. And noone has heard it.

And Joe's Garage (the album) is so prescient and so amazingly predicts so much of the future, that Zappa should be regarded as a cultural Nostradamus. The Album was his response to everything from crazies like Estes Kefauver (tried to ban comic books) to Tipper Gore (pushed for labeling music and banning lyrics)... to the culture of 'regulation' to get around the Constitution. And he destroys the music/film/entertainment industry as contributing to the stupidification of America. Listen to the whole album, especially "The Central Scrutinizer" parts. It's beyond brilliant!

Cheers,

Sirhr

Attended several of his concerts in the 70's and was always struck by the laser focus of the musicians on him as a conductor. Very little improv as it turns out, all scored by the savant. Getting into the tall grass but the tuplet charts in this piece are absolutely staggering.

And his dad was a high ranking CIA guy, like a station chief or something. Jim Morrison's dad was an admiral involved in the Gulf Of Tonkin scam, and Warren Zevon's dad was way up in the CIA too. I could have some of that just a little wrong. They all lived within a mile of each other in laurel canyon and hung out constantly. They had a strong grip on the culture in the late 60's and early 70's. They were probably all part of the plan.
You forgot aliens, the Illuminati and chem trails.

Titties and beer, Live in New York......
There’s isn’t a bad song on that set. I’ve posted Titties and Beer a couple-ish times already, but here’s another good one.

Keep in mind that there were no free live solos with Zappa. Everything was notated and practiced.

They did Black Page live on that performance also.

We went to see Dweezil last week. Bought VIP passes for sound check, Q&A, and a photo op with Frank's Roxy SG and The Shut Up and Play your Guitar Les Paul. Great expierence for a Zappa fan. We've seen Dweezil many times and he always puts on a great show.
