A few random thoughts:

Is there anything in the US Constitution or Bill of Rights that gives the Government the right to control food ?
Impossible to "Fact Check" but, it is starting to appear that the US Government is the largest purchaser of food in America.
If the US Government stopped buying food and feeding people (worldwide), how long would it be before the food riots started ?
When food goes into a child's mouth, who's responsibility is it to make sure it is OK ?.... Parent or Government ?

I believe that Hurricane Katrina proved that anarchy is 3 meals away.

I think 10-15% of the population is on “food stamps”. Add in a few percent for military, free lunch for kids at school and prisons and it’s prob 20% of the population is receiving food from the govt on one way or another.

As much as the federal govt is a money pit, what they are good at is making standards for the population.

It’s intimately the parents responsibility but that’s only works if the govt has implemented guidelines to go by.

Every study, tv show, civilization through out history creates a government of sorts to function. They may all over reach but an overseeing eye is needed for food safety.

Had an opportunity to observe and speak with the coordinator of a church food pantry in Nashville, first I was impressed with the amount of brand name food items they received as donations. Next what I was not expecting to see was the huge amount of fresh vegetables and fruits they had from local growers and retailers that they had to give away. Now for the bad part the coordinator explained that the people who receive assistance from the pantry generally didn’t want the fresh vegetables, they want prepared meals from a box or can. What amazed me afterwards was people who received or chose to take the fresh vegetables and fruits would actually throw the entire packages away along the sidewalk and roads in the vicinity of the church. Circling back to the coordinator for the food bank it got to a point they started turning fresh vegetable donations away. This is a difficult concept for me to grasp, the people coming for the free food at times drove very nice vehicles, one day a week the church people had pre-made food packages and rain or shine would hand them to people in the parking lot so as they didn’t even have to get out of their vehicles. This was pre-COVID not sure how it works now.

I have made similar observations. When people order food from a grocery store so they can do a "curb pick up" take a moment and look at the tote the order puller is filling up. Very little that actually needs to be cooked. Mostly just Heat and Eat items.
The culture in America has changed.

It is ultimately the parents responsibility. Having said that, with the public education system, media, and numerous other vectors the government has cleverly usurped said responsibility...for the majority of people.

Meh... up here egg boxes are worth more than eggs. Everyone and their cousin has chickens now. Rural America is raising chickens like never before.

But I can see this having some effect on the Whole Foods Market set and the citified folks. Not that they're eating free range eggs.

Just another day of distraction.

Cheers,

Sirhr

US farmers shun buyers, cling to unsold corn as prices slump

CHICAGO, June 17 (Reuters) - South Dakota farmer Eric Kroupa received a flurry of calls from grain dealers and ethanol plants asking to buy the corn locked away in his bins when prices neared 4-1/2-month peaks last month.
He sold some, but is waiting for buyers to up their bids to sell more. Prices have since eased and are hovering just above three-year lows posted in February.
"There's a lot of corn out there but it's sitting in the farmers' bins and not the end-users' hands," Kroupa said.

After stockpiling crops for much of this season due to low prices, many farmers in the world's largest corn-producing nation continue to shun buyers despite few signs that prices will improve. Grain supplies are ample and early ratings of summer crops are the best in years.

I see this as a good thing. Better eggs than the grocery store and home grown. Home gardens are a plus also. Eat what you can and preserve the rest.

Yeah "they" want to end civilization as we know it, so they'll strike every industry, especially "non-green" energy sources or any byproducts of of petroleum. They want us bloody peasants to live in the dark ages. Elections coming up an' all.
