Gunsmithing 223 11 degree crowning tool

Supposed to be really good but it’s expensive. Haven’t tried it.

I can't see myself spending that much to do 1 223 crown, Thank you

Manson has just the crown tool for $130 https://mansonreamers.com/product/11-degree-muzzle-crown-cutter-2/

You're not going to find that animal.
1" muzzle diameter isn't common enough on .223s for anyone to make a #1 spindle form cutter with that radius.

Manson would probably make one for you- but you'd be way ahead $$-wise to just have a smith do it for you.

Thank you, I understand, the cheaper brands offer it, I know you get what you pay for, been their done that... I may end up going a different direction, as in a smith. Thanks again everyone for your insight

What type of crown is on it now?
I never cut 11 degree crowns full diameter, you need to leave some "meat" around it for when you inevitably ding the end of the barrel against something. If you cut all the way, and ding it- you've then damaged the crown. With a flat around it, the gases flow over and past any imperfections around the edge. I'd cut the diameter of the crowning tool and just leave the remainder flat. You should be able to rent one from 4D for a one-off.

I used the above tools from Brownells to cut and crown this .223 barrel for a project a few years ago. It was faced with the 90-degree tool, given a 11-degree muzzle, with a 45-degree chamfer at the crown. It came out well and continued to shoot pretty good after that. The above will run about $250.

I thought of this as well, Mason does not offer in a 1" diameter, only in a .75 diameter, as far as damaging the rifle I never walk around with an open rifle always in a case.

Trigger Monkey;

Very nice work that looks real good, I am curious did it improve your accuracy? or stayed the same?

FDKAY;

Thanks for the info, I had no idea you could rent this stuff...
