Inexpensive silencer cover

The ridges allowing some airflow is interesting, I’ve wondered why most of the covers on the market don’t have that feature. For a few bucks it’s worth a shot, I might would go a step further and make a cover out of scrap cordura or something vs the vet wrap. Nice find!

I needed a quick solution for a suppressor cover last weekend and an old silicone drying mat was exactly what I used. Mine is currently held on with electrical tape though lol.

It worked good. I didn't rapid fire anything. Just shooting groups out of a bolt gun.
I'll trade out the tape for some velcro straps or something in the future. Fabricating a cover out of cordura like suggested above is a good idea.

Not against making my own parts and mods, but if you're just looking for a cheaper cover option that works well for light firing schedules I like the Mechanix covers. I have a couple that I use on my Nomads more often than not, hard to beat for $12 shipped if they fit your can.

Hey, if it works, it works.

I think pretty much all of the current suppressor wrap offerings on the market have shortcomings. Especially around the retention systems.

The issue with this persons solution is that you can't easily remove the wrap to let the suppressor cool down. Maybe that's an issue for you, maybe not.

But they are most like oven mitts, which don't need to be particularly Gucci to do the job.
True, but if you buy a $30 one on Amazon for an airsoft gun, it’s going to melt…Period. I’ve seen it several times at the range from other people who thought they could cheap-out on them.

“Buh…Buh…Buh…It said it was a suppressor cover…” 🤦🏼🤦🏼🤦🏼

Don't know what Amazon covers you're buying, but the Mechanix one I linked is $12, not $30, and it's not made of the melty stuff, except for the nylon tag which some morons have apparently forgotten to pull out before using.

I have two and have gotten them quite hot, I'm not guessing about whether they work or not. If you don't believe me, give it a whirl big money, it's only $12, basically disposable.

“Roll your own?”

Not sure what temperatures the fabric would need to be rated for, and for how long.

Only suggested it because a pair of gloves I need is made of this stuff.

I’ve watched them literally catch on fire. 😂

Hell someone posted on here about a Burnproof Gear catch on fire, too.

I run RiflesOnlyGear HAD covers. You catch one of those on fire, you’re doing something. They have a 3000° Nomex core. I’ve gotten them smoking before, but never on fire.

Super affordable compared to other offerings. Easy to take on and off. Doesn't move under fire.

I liked my BurnProof Gear but man it was a PITA to take off. Burned through several coletac covers even with the extra heat protection materials.

If it's going to cost $40 in materials, I'd bite the bullet and get the Can Chap for the quality.

I bought a 20 cm roll of 2mil asbestos fabric from India. One single wrap around the auto-rated can under the suppressor cover. I can put it on my AR, mag dump several times till the barrel is smokin', and it's still cool to the touch. No heat and no mirage coming off of it at all, none. It's the only thing that actually works. Nothing else comes even close.

Save your scolding. I have a MO abatement license, and there is nothing unsafe about it. At least not for 20 or so years.

Last time I needed one, my wife made it for me. <$5 and about 10 minutes.

Felt on the inside, canvas on the outside, and WTFE kinda heat resistant stuff goes inside of oven mitts in-between. It's for my Hybrid 46 that will likely only ever be used on my .45-70. Probably didn't really need it for mirage, but will protect it from dings in the woods if nothing else.

Yeah...my thought was the silicone dish whatever and wrap that with this tape. Does it "setup" to become sort of like a cast for a broken arm?
It does take form when it dries(you put in on wet), but nothing like a cast. It’s not a tape, it’s held on with wire or metal straps. You wouldn’t want to be touching it due to the fiberglass particles.

Asbestos came to my mind immediately, and then I see your post where you made it work, safely even. Well done.

Needed another cover and didn't want to spend big money and didn't need a very high temp rating. This Mechanix is perfect fit for my Omega.
