I found this too long video where a guy makes a silencer cover with a silicone drying mat and some fabric tape.

How thick is that tesa tape? Do you use only that tape and wrap it directly onto the can? I'm thinking a silicone mat then tesa tape would also work well.I wrap mine in tesa tape
But they are most like oven mitts, which don't need to be particularly Gucci to do the job.Suppressor covers are like a lot of things in life…
If my first version works I plan to use a couple or three pieces of metal measuring tape to let it slap bracelet itself around the can.The issue with this persons solution is that you can't easily remove the wrap to let the suppressor cool down. Maybe that's an issue for you, maybe not.
Then go be poor somewhere else.I don't think cowboys used silencers.
True, but if you buy a $30 one on Amazon for an airsoft gun, it’s going to melt…Period. I’ve seen it several times at the range from other people who thought they could cheap-out on them. But they are most like oven mitts, which don't need to be particularly Gucci to do the job.

“Buh…Buh…Buh…It said it was a suppressor cover…”
I’ve watched them literally catch on fire.Don't know what Amazon covers you're buying, but the Mechanix one I linked is $12, not $30, and it's not made of the melty stuff, except for the nylon tag which some morons have apparently forgotten to pull out before using.
I have two and have gotten them quite hot, I'm not guessing about whether they work or not. If you don't believe me, give it a whirl big money, it's only $12, basically disposable.
It’s impregnated fiberglass.Has anyone ever used THIS STUFF on their hot rods? How would it work as a can wrapper?
Yeah...my thought was the silicone dish whatever and wrap that with this tape. Does it "setup" to become sort of like a cast for a broken arm? It’s impregnated fiberglass.
It does take form when it dries(you put in on wet), but nothing like a cast. It’s not a tape, it’s held on with wire or metal straps. You wouldn’t want to be touching it due to the fiberglass particles.Yeah...my thought was the silicone dish whatever and wrap that with this tape. Make Asbestos Great Again!I bought a 20 cm roll of 2mil asbestos fabric from India.
Asbestos came to my mind immediately, and then I see your post where you made it work, safely even. Well done.I bought a 20 cm roll of 2mil asbestos fabric from India. One single wrap around the auto-rated can under the suppressor cover. I can put it on my AR, mag dump several times till the barrel is smokin', and it's still cool to the touch. No heat and no mirage coming off of it at all, none. It's the only thing that actually works. Nothing else comes even close.
Save your scolding. I have a MO abatement license, and there is nothing unsafe about it. At least not for 20 or so years.
Needed another cover and didn't want to spend big money and didn't need a very high temp rating. This Mechanix is perfect fit for my Omega. Not against making my own parts and mods, but if you're just looking for a cheaper cover option that works well for light firing schedules I like the Mechanix covers. I have a couple that I use on my Nomads more often than not, hard to beat for $12 shipped if they fit your can.
