Going to be moving to Morgantown, WV for work in a few weeks. Started looking for gun stores and shooting ranges. Found Harry Jones gun range that offered up to 1000yrd, any others worth looking into?

Don’t have a house yet so I can’t give a local area yet other than where work is, but I will absolutely not be living in the city, or PA, VA, or MD.

No sales tax here in WV on firearms and ammunition. Our state government is improving, as is our business climate. Folks are starting to move here.

An important distinction, it's the

Monongahela River

And

Monongalia County

Been a while since I was in school at WVU '89, but should be plenty of gun stores. Ranges a little less common. If you like outdoors activities, you will like M-Town.

Im about 3 hours away, is White Sulphur Springs

What's wrong with PA?
Higher taxes and politics. PA ever come up with an answer yet on how they had only 723k registered mail in ballots, but received and counted 1.27 million yet? I watched that live and when the question was asked by Rudy Giuliani in front of the Republican committee, state supervisor of elections site had the plug pulled on live tv.

Yes me and the family like the outdoors. Looking at trying to get some acreage to build a hobby farm on. Was starting a backyard market garden here in central FL till the hoard migration in 2020 caused a zero lease line housing subdivision explosion!!! If you can even find land its going $40k plus an acre. Kinda hard for a lowly auto mechanic to afford that.

We were looking at a few houses around Salem and Clarksburg area. Trying to keep the work commute under hour.

If you are moving to the Clarksburg/Salem area check out the Whitehorse Range.

No offense to the OP, but too many people are moving to WV. Used to be we were rated last in everything but you could safely raise a family, get a good education, make a modest living, and not worry abut your life being interfered with as long as you didn't bother anyone else.

Not so much any more. Meth and Oxy epidemic and liberal carpetbaggers moving here to help the underprivileged citizens of the state. The eastern panhandle has become a suburb of DC. It's not the same place as when I was a kid.

OP, you like to shoot and farm so those are attributes in your favor, we can probably be friends.

Look into Mason-Dixon Rifle Club. Only 200 yard berms for rifle, but it was the best available place to shoot there 20 years ago. I see some names still involved that were good guys are still there. IDPA matches still held there. Stonewall Jackson Lake WMA range is beautiful and has 300 yard berms though it can get crowded at times.

Reade range in PA used to be a great place, may still be.

I work in Clarksburg. There’s a small outdoor range in between Salem and C-burg right on route 50. Can’t remember the name. Whitehorse has the 1000 yds but I believe that’s only available once a month or so since you have to shoot over a road (or maybe it’s over another section of their range, can’t remember). There’s a 200yd range outside of Philippi at Pleasant Creek wildlife management area which isn’t terrible. Usually a ghost town through the week.

For a quality gun shop, check out ATR in Fairmont. Those guys are top notch, great guys, and they have an indoor range if that’s your thing.

I was looking at Berkley Springs area. That area ain’t cheap anymore. There was a town called paw paw also that had an 80 acre spot that had potomac river frontage.

That was like 5 years ago. I am pretty sure prices have skyrocketed since then.

I liked that area b/c it was near rivers, and flatter land, and tri state lines.

I didn’t want to be out with the single toothed types.

ATR Performance in Fairmont (20 miles from Motown) is a great gun store and josh sells a lot of high end stuff and has a range in the back. One of the few stores that does not jack up ammo/reloading supply costs during shortages.

I'm in MD about an hour from Morgantown and I've shot at White Horse a few times. Range is cool. It does have a 1000 yard line but they do have to close everything down to shoot from it because you have to shoot over the whole range. Had a good time out there. Guys running it were cool when I went. Has been a few years though.

they have 600 i believe always available (when they're open). did 3 gun there once or maybe twice several years back, not sure if they're still doing that.

Sadly to say, part of the reason for moving is the exact same thing I’m now doing. Only I’m not a liberal shit bird! The population explosion and exodus caused by mostly peaceful protesting 2019/20 has caused a 1.3 million increase here in FL.

What was my 35 minute drive to work is now almost a hour and a half. You can now drive from St. Petersburg on the gulf to within 15 miles of Orlando and never leave city/suburb now. It’s not just the traffic but the type of people. People blindly run major intersection now, and on a regular basis. I’ve seen more major, talking head on or t-boned rolled cars in the ditch in the last four years than thirty years living here.

My meager backyard range is about to go bye bye. SR 98 is about to become 4 lanes and all the woods by the house are in progress of getting ripped down or for sale. So I’m not waiting to see if they build a strip mall, time to go.

How’s the FFL transfer fees up there? Only got one gun store left that only charges $25 for each form. Everyone else has gone to $50 or more.
