Phoenix Custom Rifles pics, reviews, lead times

I’ve been posting here for so long, off and on, that I forget not everyone has heard of us. So here’s a little bio..

Phoenix Custom Rifles is owned by me, Keith Johns. The entire company consists of my father and I, who both attended and graduated Yavapai gunsmithing 15 year ago. Bolt action rifles are all we do. These days I do all the machine work at PCR, while my Dad does our beautiful stock work and Cerakote. We’re a small low volume shop that does high quality work with low wait times(usually). Our company phone number is a direct line to me personally 24/7.

We can’t thank all our past and present customers enough, and I hope we get to build some great rifles for those of you who don’t yet know us.

maybe put this info on the first post?

Also add that you track using an AirPod?

You still doing 10% for SH?

All that in the first post. Maybe. Idk. I don’t run your shop. I just like seeing local guys win.

I just dropped our prices to be more aligned with our instate competitors pricing. Im not going to sugar coat it, as many of you who know me know I don’t do, I’m appalled at how cheaply some people do this job. Guys offering chambering jobs for $250 blows my mind.

Our quality of work will never decrease, even though our prices are.

I am happy to help out Hide members and PRS/NRL shooters so mention it when you call me and I’ll save you some money anywhere I can.

Our BRUX barrels will be sold at a discount too, for anyone doing a rifle build with us(using that barrel for the build).

Thanks again

That’s a good idea, I went ahead and edited the first post to say that. Thanks.

The AirTags I have as an option. For pricier shipments I usually ask people if they want me to include one.

I’m happy to give Hide members 10% off on our main services.

Gave our PRS rifles some fancy colors. Did “burnt copper” cerakote on mine, and Black Cherry Cerakote on my buddies.

It looks darker in person and very manly lol.
Still working out my photography lighting and backdrop… my copper rifle shown above looks darker in person too. They’re both gorgeous.
Have you gone into the camera settings and properly set your “white balance”

Usually fixes a lot of what you see vs what camera sees.

I looked at the camera settings to try to figure it out but didn’t. I’m sure I can find help online if just google it. It’s an iPhone 14 Pro so I think it has some fancy camera stuff
Let me ask my wife for an app recommendation. Folks have filmed near studio quality movies on these things but I can’t take a picture to save my life.

I think I’ve used the feature on the phone before, but then couldn’t find it when I actually needed it and looked for it.

Seems like a guys gotta be able to do a little bit of everything these days(regarding trades and tech). Good help is either impossible to find or afford anymore.
Just a man and handy YouTube lol.

I cut a Christensen carbon wrapped barrel into 5 pieces to see how thick the steel core is and how the carbon wrapping looked.

If anyone has a PROOF carbon barrel that is shot out I’d love to cut one of those apart, and would even cut one or two sections lengthwise to see if the steel core is just a mostly typical barrel blank, or if something more is being done.

I’m interested in doing some heat transmission/dissipation tests too.

If anyone has any shot-out carbon barrels I can butcher, bake, and beat up let me know. I’ll post pics and video of what I find.

No wait time for builds. Staying on top of it.

New(lower) prices are updated on our site.

Additional 10% for Hide members!
Let’s get some rifles built
Mr Johns

a friend recommended you for some stock work, though mine is a little more in depth than his was.

Im needing an inlet of a flat top mcmillian game warden.
Is this something your shop is doing?

I know more than one guy looking for this FYI.

Thank you

We’ve done a handful of flat tops but since we don’t use CNC it’s very involved and we need to repaint and bed them afterwards.

It’s a shame McMillan won’t inlet their own flat top stocks for people.
