Night Vision New Voodoo-MX & Voodoo-R

That's kind of nuts for a handheld thermal

I'd prefer the LRF / solver on my rifle so it works during the day as well, but some people seem to think differently. If I have all of that in a clip-on, might as well just use that unit as the dedicated sight

Just throwing it out there that I’ve changed my mind here a bit… integrating into a single unit makes a lot of sense and daytime range may be simply done with a bino / LRF combo.

Curious if anyone has played with the MX?

If I recall correctly ST42 posted that he has an MX

😂 Yep, it is true. If fact I used it three days ago and spanked a yote at 472 yards. Dope was perfect.
Well spill the beans on how it works!! How do you like it compared to a WMLRF / clip-on solution? Both seem to have strengths and tradeoffs. Does the MX have IR lasers onboard or just an LRF?

I'm suddenly now realizing that this is the Voodoo-MX with that big objective:

And this is the Voodoo-R:

So the R is basically a Voodoo-S with LRF and AB?

This thing is pretty cool. The cost difference is the same as buying a MARS-LC in terms of having just a Voodoo MX versus a Voodoo ML/MARS. I looked at getting one but ended up with the separate WMLRF instead.

At the time I also did not know it would include AB. That would have potentially changed the decision.

I spoke with one of the Voodoo guys last spring (nice guy) and he said the R was a 50mm unit. I asked him kindly for a 50mm clip on and he kindly said no plans at that time haha

So far, so good. Connecting with a customer today who recently took delivery.

My opinion has slightly changed...

Mx makes practical sense if you're dedicating a single rifle to night time ops. Especially if you have limited space and aren't running a chassis system or rings that support a Raptar like rail. It's an edge case.

For most, we use clip-ons to carry over our day rifles into a night platform. If you fall into this category which is presumably 99% of people, it's still better to separate WMLRF & Thermal as two pieces. Otherwise, you're stuck only using the WMLRF when deploying your Thermal - day & night.

I tend to agree, but there are some unique things you could do with an MX, like standalone on a lightweight rifle w/ 5x magnifier. That would give you a very compact setup with 5x scalable with digital zoom, point n click ranging/aiming with disturbed reticle.

But yeah, edge case.

Edit: and honestly at that point, a HALO XRF would be a somewhat close solution at 1/3rd cost

I went back and forth on the LRF + Clip on or one integrated unit and now think I'd prefer an integrated unit since I don't have $6k to $10k to put a MARS on each rifle (bolt, AR10, and 6 ARC). Simply buy a really good clip on like the MX and you have a streamlined solutions package for any rifle at night without the need to adjust the laser POI. I coyote hunt so that's my use case.

Seems like day stuff is usually done in pairs (for me anyway) so a bino+LRF kinda solves the day needs for me (day is usually more static shooting with a spotter or similar and if I have a heavy spotter I'd be inclined to just throw an Impact 4000 on there but that's a really narrow use case for me.

Idk, maybe I'm just trying to justify saving for an MX :ROFLMAO:

FWIW, I've found that moving the MARS between rifles is really easy. I have a pair and often move them around depending on what my loadout for a trip is. The night before I'll mount it to the new rifle, turn on the visible laser and try to zero it as far as I can to my zeroed scope reticle. 300 yards seems sufficient, but farther is better.

I had an Impact 4000 and sold it because I got tired of the weight and swapping around / sighting in. Maybe I'm just lazy but I kinda like the grab and go capability of an integrated unit (and I'll nearly always have a bino+LRF on me during the day anyway)
