I need a mentor so I can be prepared for sniper School

To the OP @david.stad14

Shooting 800 meters is not what makes you a sniper. Getting close enough to be effective while not being detected is key. That requires more fieldcraft than just marksmanshhip.

I think David is stalking this thread, showing us his ability to stay undetected.

High stress construction and kitchen jobs🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

What a joke

That part kind of stumped me too, because that is my own background. I'd been a dishwasher/building porter/maintenance COMBINED before. And now I am in construction. In both former and latter, it is purely performance and pragmatism driven. You do your job and keep it all hair-shaving razor sharp in every place you are responsible for, we all work at our own pace...

And then it hit me... It WOULD be high stress if you cannot put out what is asked of you, keep making stupid mistakes and constantly get chewed out and clowned for it...

If interested in any cold climate tips, let me know. I have considerable experience from my time in the Army in Germany.

I'm guessing from your post that you probably don't know that they don't give them shitty clothes anymore. The gear they give even line joes would probably shock you. No more shit field jackets, smoking jackets and glorious poncho liners piled up 3 to a garbage 20lb sleeping bag that absorbs water like a sponge. They are issued better gear now than you probably realize exists. Also, if they start bitching about the cold, they give them milk and cookies and move them immediately into a heated building. I don't know how long you've been out, but it isn't what you remember.

Next you'll be saying everyone gets their own tent.

Why I went SF. Back in the day, M65 was standard issue, and Gore-tex was SF issue. I bought a Gore-Tex jacket from Clothing Sales while going through the Q-course and then they wouldn't let us wear them for Phase III. Went through Phase III in February...rain, followed by snow, followed by rain. The M65 cotton field jacket could be a death sentence if you didn't know how to survive harsh conditions.

I started in 1996 and had a break in service, then a second enlistment ending in 2013, so I lived through both of them, although I think my field jacket was woodland. By the time I got out, it was arctyrex jackets and puffies and really high quality stuff. That technology had come a long way in the last 30 years.

I was there from 75-77. My expertise isn't in the type of gear issued.

You never saw how Marines lived, did you?

I came out of the field in 89, you were either hot, cold, or wet and cold, mixed with a good sand blasting and fly bites.

Whoever came up with those damn leather boots they issued to us should be shot, and when did they start issueing us goretex.
I went back in in 2003 and we had it, I was super impressed, but in the 80s? I figured they gave us shit to fuck with us

I was still getting hand-me-down crap in 2010

Never had cold weather gear, and coulda used it numerous times. Same with the GoreTex lmao.

Everything was held together with duct tape and superglue, and well used and abused.

I watched a guy get judo thrown HARD onto the deck for having his hands in his pockets. Pretty impressive but WAY to far
I'd kill a mother fucker that put his dick skins on me. We'd get our ass chewed a bit in garrison, but when dickhead walked away we would put our hands back in our pockets, in the field? Whatevs...

1. I am lifetime drug free, my best bench was either 225 or 235 5 sec pause with ass to bench. for 1. (I have very Long arms).
2. I'm being honest, I have some exp with archery but as far as kills, I never used archery as a primary method for hunting. Should I? Do you recommend I should focus on archery for sniper school? Thanks
3. I have done very hard labor construction work. Concrete not a ton. Should I be a concrete labourer? Thanks
Not aware of the papa rocks reference at all.
