Be Wary MPT! "Take it Down" act is coming!

Just saw this on Newsmax, sponsored by Sen. Ted Cruz. The "Take it down" act to prevent Deep Fake AI images of nude people being published on the Internet when a complaint is filed against that Internet site.

A portion of the act reads as follows:

It shall be unlawful for any person in interstate of foreign commerce to use an interactive computer service to knowingly publish an intimate visual depiction of an identifiable individual who is a minor with intent to - abuse, humiliate, harass or degrade the minor; or around or gratify the $exual desire of any person.

The bill passed unanimously in the Senate. It's awaiting a vote in the House. If signed into law, our MPT rules will have to be modified. Maybe less AI stuff.

I'm not sure the new legislation is only for "minors." In the Newsmax Interview, Ted Cruz was beside a young lady who was victimized and his inspiration for the bill. Apparently, that young lady was an adult.

Some more info coming in. Apparently, the website in question must take down the image within 48 hours of being notified by the complainant. The lady in question with Ted Cruz is a HS senior, but could be 18.

She was on the USA Gymnastics Team that went to the 2012 London Olympics, along with Gabby Douglas, Aly Reismann, Jordyn Weieber, etc. She (Maroney) won the gold medal in individual vault, IIRC. There are many more like this, where through no fault of their own were victimized. Most have no recourse, and I am not sure the best way to handle this type of victimization.

I have always wondered how these people that take celebs and photoshop their head on a nude body get away with it. I mean, you are really jacking with their character, and had always seemed like a libel suit in the making. All sounds like free speech until it is your daughter or family.

I'm not going to read the bill, but I was bored one day and tried the deep fake thing, where somehow AI generates a nude out of a regular image. I did it with a picture of my ex-wife. It was remarkably close! I could see this being an issue for people seeking revenge, girls in high school, college, or even a co-worker you don't like.

This is just another example of making more rules and laws for the douchebags in society that don't know how to act like humans!

MORE RULES, MORE RULES........none of these ever really fix the real issues! Hangings, castrations, and whacking off limbs would be way more effective! As with most things, this doesn't affect me!

I agree...but that's not the intent of the post from what I'm seeing (and I've been wrong before).

I think that the intent here is to show and article where old Ted is trying to prevent someone's [normal] photo from being superimposed into a porn scene (i.e. they never took a photo like that, and it was faked) for the intent of dissemination and harassment. And to that I'm torn over the 1A, which I support more than most people...and what I'd do to the bitch who superimposes a photo of one of my underage daughters into a porn photo to make it look like she's getting railed...and then using it to embarass/harass her - because I'd cripple the MF'er if I got the chance.

And, it's ironic that someone brings up McKayla Maroney. You mean like, you might get held liable for publishing actual nude photos of others who as it says in Section 2, (2), (A), (i - iv): "what is depicted was not voluntarily exposed by the identifiable individual in a public or commercial setting", "publication of the intimate visual depiction-is intended to cause harm, or causes harm..."?

I read it. I don't understand the benefit of protecting this. It does nothing to protect chicks to take their clothes off for money.

Regarding digital forgeries, I will rest in what I stated above.

I'm glad that some may disagree with me. I certainly wouldn't expect a unanimous point of view, and judging by the number of fake tiddy pics that get plastered in the MPT, I might even think that I'm of the minority at times "here".

I do however dislike that law enforcement agencies etc... are of course, offered protection for certain reasons. I hate that the king and his men get separate rules from everyone else just because they word things to make it sound like they're doing US a favor.

Without that exception they cannot prosecute or do their jobs.

Like speeding - if there is no exception in the law to permit the officer to speed, he could never catch up to speeders to write a ticket. Sometimes these things are necessary if you want any law enforcement at all.

It does not mean that an officer can get away with violating this law outside of doing their job of prosecuting somebody.

Take, for example, child porn.

In order to prosecute these disgusting perverts, officers must view the porn and collect evidence and even copy it. Access it, provide it to others, like the prosecutor and even the defense attorney, and eventually show it to 12 members of the public sitting in the jury box.

All of those actions would violate the law if there was not an exception for law enforcement.

An officer who downloads kiddie porn and has it on his computer can be prosecuted just the same as anybody else (and it has happened). There is no blanket exception.

All are reprehensible... BUT there is a slippery slope in charging people for posting and sharing images. No matter how disgusting.

In the same way that a newspaper cannot be blocked from publishing stolen documents (only prosecuted for stealing them)... going after individuals for sharing info is fraught with peril.

Would much rather see resources put towards finding and prosecuting those who create the material. And there is nothing stopping civil suits against people who post and share crap like this.

But these folks should be very, very careful what they wish for. It all sounds well and good until you get another Lawfare administration or commies in who use it to destroy the Bill of Rights. And over the last 16 years, we have seen: A. How easy it is. and B. How many people cheer it and say 'yay' while the nation's freedoms swirl down the toilet.

Funny you mention this... As a (now retired) EMT, in my former State of the PRNJ, I was very familiar with traffic laws and what EMS vehicles could and could not do.Technically, EMS vehicles are like all other vehicles and had to obey all the traffic laws regular motorists had to obey. The only difference being, if you were using red lights and sirens, the other cars had to get out of your way and let you pass. That's all. Technically, you can't even exceed the speed limit, although most LEAs will cut you some slack as long as you keep it to no more than 10 miles over the limit, and you don't cause any accidents.

Per NJ Statutes, there are only two entities in the entire state that may (legally) exceed the posted speed limit and under careful restrictions:

1) The Military - In times of war, riot or insurrection;

2) A Law Enforcement Officer "When in pursuit of a violator."

Other than that, no one may (technically) exceed the speed limit. And, if they do and cause an accident (by speeding or other means), they can get into some serious trouble.
