Funny you mention this... As a (now retired) EMT, in my former State of the PRNJ, I was very familiar with traffic laws and what EMS vehicles could and could not do.Technically, EMS vehicles are like all other vehicles and had to obey all the traffic laws regular motorists had to obey. The only difference being, if you were using red lights and sirens, the other cars had to get out of your way and let you pass. That's all. Technically, you can't even exceed the speed limit, although most LEAs will cut you some slack as long as you keep it to no more than 10 miles over the limit, and you don't cause any accidents.

Per NJ Statutes, there are only two entities in the entire state that may (legally) exceed the posted speed limit and under careful restrictions:

1) The Military - In times of war, riot or insurrection;

2) A Law Enforcement Officer "When in pursuit of a violator."

Other than that, no one may (technically) exceed the speed limit. And, if they do and cause an accident (by speeding or other means), they can get into some serious trouble.

So those NJ state troopers Who run down the Pike at 98mph looking to back door speeders only doing 87…. Can get tickets? Shocked, I tell ya!! Shocked!! ;-)

In theory, yes. In practice... Are you kidding??? :ROFLMAO:

We're definitely dealing with a Who "polices the police" scenario here. The NJSP is too busy policing the local LEAs for stuff like that. Who's going to police them? NSJP Internal Affairs??? I don't think so. Only if they cause an accident, might they get in trouble. But The State Troopers are trained on how to deflect blame onto the Sun and Moon before they accept blame for such an accident. If a Municipal LEA attempted to charge a State Trooper with a traffic violation or an accident, trust me, Hell would rain down on that municipality.

Now, as to "running down the Pike," NJSP would consider that a form of "pursuit..." which would actually make it legal per the Statute.

remember a miami thing where a FM FHP trooper ticked a miami city cop doing like 110 on turnpike,i75,palmetto (?). he said he was going to his second job. don't remember the outcome but i think he pulled on her or resisted violently when she tried to arrest him. kinda typical for miami and dade co cops. pretty totally corrupt.
