I shoot matches here in central Oklahoma and I’ve seen anywhere from 17-40ish shooters at one day matches with 20-30 being the norm.
The one days I go to in the Midwest have 60 shooters almost every time st a minimum. Sometimes near 100.
It's because of the volume of matches in the area, which is part of PRS's point I think. If you live in OKC, you can shoot a 1 day match every weekend practically and never have to drive more than 3 hours.
Most of the Oklahoma matches aren't in Practiscore. Those that are often aren't preloaded till a few weeks in advance. Not that that isn't a problem...
I remember when I first started, in 2012, we only had 10 or so matches for the whole year in the U.S. In 2013 I believe we had 15? with 3 of those being here in Oklahoma. It has come a long way from those days.
I wish FL had 43 PRS matches but we have zero 2 day and only a handful of one days. Thats sucks for the shooters in central FL. We have a metric shit ton of rifles and shooters in this state but not many are willing to drive 10 hours to North GA or North AL to chase points. The PRS has completely turned their back on the state of Florida. The participation is here maybe they don’t want our money?

Talk to your local MD's and range owners. PRS replies on you coming to them wanting to host. If there is truly that demand surely one of those people will step up and run a match. Gotta walk before you run. Same goes for matches. Have to have some one days before you get a 2 day
Again, the PRS does not create matches. Its up to the locals and MDs to create the matches then meet the requirements of PRS.
Altus is back hosting PRS events. I am in middle of GA and shoot PRS at Cool Acres, Clinton House, occasionally Alabama. However, Arena in SW GA (a potential commute for FL) is denied hosting PRS events. Existing clubs in SE Region are limited on how many PRS events can be hosted per season. I contacted PRS leaders and asked "why limiting clubs from hosting events" and response seemed to be 1) some established clubs were not getting enough competitors so limiting other clubs may push up support for lower performing venues and 2) PRS leaders want PRS competitors to travel more away from their "home" courses.
They really need to redo the regional maps. They are so out of wack with shooter distribution. Canada also needs to be its own region.
If I remember correctly, Arena had a falling out with Shannon Kay. Hence, they stopped hosting official PRS matches. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
There really isn’t any drama in the PRS, unless you choose to stick your nose into it. Most of the people bitching about “the drama” are in no way involved in it. They aren’t relevant in any way. They simply want to gossip about it as if they are in the know in a way to appear more important than they are. 90% of shooters are oblivious to any drama that takes place in the PRS. They find a match, sign up, shoot it, and have a very good time……that’s the end of it.On behalf of all SH boomers…. Get off my lawn!
