I’m trying to figure out what reamer specs I should be looking at for a new barrel I’m getting spun up in 223. Unfortunately I’m completely in the dark with what I want/need to get 75-80gr class bullets to work best. I know what works for my other calibers with my bullets choose.

Ive heard some people say the wylde chamber work great but I’ve also heard a “match” chamber with .080-.090” FB is the way to go.

What’s your goal for the rifle? Distance, velocity, accuracy? I had one spun up recently for 80-85s I went for a .080 freebore at the recommendation of my smith. Some I have seen go a might longer (.09-.1) but they are shooting mostly 85s to a 1000.

It’ll be a PRS tac division rifle, so I’ve got to stay under 3000fps while limited to 77gr stuff getting mag fed. I’m probably going to run a steady diet of either 77SMK’s or 75ELD-M’s since I can’t justify berger money for a 223. Longest match in my region goes out 1150 yards, which I know is beyond what the 223 was ever designed for, and accuracy wise the tighter the better but it’s just got to hit steel.

Now do I want to play around with the heavier for caliber stuff, of course but that’s not going to be the primary use for the rig.

I’ve got a wylde .062 freebore and I’ve got a match .100 freebore. Both are fine, flip a coin. Use a metal accurate mag and shave it out to accept 2.550 oal rounds and it’ll be awesome.
I shoot tac class as much as I shoot open, I just love my 223s

Go Wylde. I have one for my PRS rifle shooting 75 ELDs and I use MDT poly mags which can be loaded to 2.550 and I load .020” off at 2.470”. It’s a perfect set up.

I thought the steel MDT were longer internally, but I do like the price of the poly and if they fit 2.550 that’s a bonus

They may be but the poly work great so I never tried them. I also got them real cheap on Black Friday a few years back and bought some more last year too.

I definitely screwed up not ordering some during Black Friday, but then again this project was completely on the back burner till about a week ago.

Always next year and they run some deals from time to time. Even at full price they are about $30 less than steel. The new 12 rounders are about $20 less. I’d get a couple 12 rounders and a 10 and that should keep you going in a match until next year when you can buy more for cheap.

True they do have the occasional random sale, and even at full price they are still cheaper then my 6BR mags from them.
