Rifle Scopes Cross over scope, let’s beat it to death again

Apologize I know this gets talked about a bunch but things change and I like to get opinions. I’m looking for a light NRL hunter longer range hunting scope. I’m running the 5-25 mark 5 and its pretty decent , field of view is kinda meh and the turrets aren’t my favorite. I have a 4-16 ATACR but want a little more mag if possible and the reticle gets a bit thick at top end.

Looking for something under 35oz’s closer to 30 is better
20x or better would be great
Great glass and great turrets
Best possible field of view
Needs to work with LH action
Illumination preferred but not a deal breaker
Sub 4k

Are you able to save weight elsewhere? Lighter stock/chassis? Barrel? You can make weight with a ZCO 4-20 but would have to shave weight in other places.

Maybe a Razor AMG if you can find one? Burris XTR3 seems to be a love hate optic around here but it could be an option. I had a 3-18 and it was great, I just didn’t like the scr2. I hear the 5-30 pro is better optically so should be pretty damn good if that’s the case. Don’t know exact weight but they are reasonable vs Razor G2 etc

I've been chasing my ideal cross-over for years and years. Probably the top few from what I've had are:

ZCO420 is very close, but is on the high side of weight. It's doable, but would be better if they could drop 1/2 pound. A little bit thicker reticle (maybe 0.045mil) would better crossover into the hunting side of things in my opinion. If ZCO could do what Tangent did with their "M" series relative to their "P" series, that would fill the gap for me. This is probably the best contender for me as a cross-over/general purpose scope on the current market.

TT315M is also very close. Better reticle selection or thicken up the Gen3XR, and that would probably be it for me. A rumored TT420 could fill in the gap, but I've only heard of a future "P" series model, so I think weight will be high. Some will prefer 10mil/rev turrets, but I think 6mil/rev is an okay compromise, and 6 mils gets me to 800 yards with a 22" 6.5CM hunting rifle (with factory ammo). The second rev indicator also alleviates most of that issue IMO. The poor reticle selections leaves the G2MD as a hunting-leaning option for me.

Kahles k525i is a decent crossover. New prices are not commensurate with performance IMO. Used prices in the $2,300 range is more practical for me. The 15mil/rev turrets are not ideal for low light conditions, but the DLR version fixes that issue. Optical IQ of mine was not on par with my TT/ZCOs, but my K525i was still good. I've come to prefer TT/ZCO in terms of features and optics, but this isn't the worst option.

Vortex AMG 6-24 is another one that is very close. FoV is great, weight is right, I'd prefer a little different reticle but it was doable. You can occasionally find these used for pretty cheap. A Gen 2 version could really have legs. Especially if liberty optics comes back online, haha.

Mark 5 3.6-18 - weight is good, controls and optical IQ were fine (but doesn't compete with others), reticle selection is not ideal but okay. Recent pricing of new scopes is a bit crazy. I think I sold mine used for +/-$1,400, which seems reasonable relative to performance. A 5-25 probably makes more sense as cross-over.

4-16x42 ATACR - very similar to the Mk5 that I had. I'd prefer slight different reticle design, upgrade optics & control, and get rid of rotating ocular. Weight is good. I'm very optimistic for a Gen 2 ATACR series in terms of potential, but NF's track record leaves me looking elsewhere. I haven't had the 4-20, but the reported low end tunneling + weight + reticle selection makes it a no-go for a cross-over for me.

I have not owned a March 4.5-28 (primarily due to reticle selections), but that should be on a list for a S/A crossover IMO. I've only messed with an XTR3, but the reticles in the 3-18 versions are not paired well IMO. The Zeiss S3 are heavy, and at their weight I would rather just go ZCO.

Lots of options are very close, but nothing yet.

There isn’t really one that’s good on low mag and high mag. Older LRHS/LRTSi 3-12 version. Maven rs1.2 2.5-15 is decent. There’s rumors of new scopes coming at shot show but idk if it’s mpvo or what. ZCO 2-10 HTR reticle looks good on paper but that thing is a piggy.

I’m thinking of a zco 4-20, kahles 3-18 I’ve had a few 525i’s they weren’t bad. Does the dlr version have a wider fov? I had a a couple Ang’s but I don’t remember the eye box being very forgiving but I maybe thinking nx8. It’s been a bit

Given that you are looking to upgrade from some pretty good quality optics I would suggest the S&B pm11 6-36. I believe they are around 32-33 oz.

DLRs have greater FoV. The K318 only gives 1.5x on the low end compared to the k525 (3.5 vs 5), but gives up 7x on the high end. Weights are almost identical, and the shorter K318 can be more challenging in terms of mounting, and optics will suffer a little as well. Personally, I see zero reason to go with the k318.

I don't recall my AMG having a tight eyebox, but mine is long gone.

I say it alot, but there is something special about the 420. For whatever it's worth, I converted my turrets to NLE once it was available, and much perfer the NLE. For a crossover, I think 10 mil NLE is the way to go.

I avoid Crossover Scopes as I dislike being disappointed with performance twice with a single purchase.

OP, based on your criteria the March 4.5-28x52 with Shuriken turrets would be my first choice.

The March-FX 4.5-28X52 is a solid choice, right in the parameters the OP, especially with its 25° angle of view. That said, at about 35 oz, the March-FX 5-42X56 Gen2 with its 26° angle of view is something to consider, as it's still within the parameters, but pushing the envelope with weight and maybe price.

I would have never considered this scope. It sounds amazing but a to be honest I’ve never been behind a march optic so maybe a bit apprehensive but it is going to be this or a zco 420

Both are fantastic options. ZCO going to be slightly better IQ and low light brightness while March offers greater FOV and lighter weight and of course increased mag range. ZCO can be serviced quickly in Idaho while March requires a trip across the Pacific should warranty be needed.

Great scope. You will find it more parallax touchy with more edge distortion than Schmidt, Vortex Razor, etc. though. The FoV is absolutely wild. Huge picture compared to ZCO for instance.

I have a similar need. Been impressed with the couple Kahles 3.5-28’s I’ve played with. Crazy FOV. Wish it was 5-6oz lighter (36.7oz)

Most of us wish it was lighter... but only 2oz heavier than ZCO 4-20 which many consider a great crossover design so maybe not terrible if IQ holds up, but with an 8x erector may not be as forgiving as ZCO and other designs.

NF 4-16x42 and ZCO 4-20x50 are my two favorite crossover scopes. They both are not to light, but they are built like a tank, reliable and have great glass.
