Minimally obtrusive ear pro you can leave on for periods of time

So probably a neckband with 6-8 inch of wire to ear buds. Open to other ideas need 8 hours runtime I would think or replaceable rechargeable batteries. Ideally cut off loud noises but allow conversation much like my sordins.

Hey it's 2024 Bluetooth to answer my phone would keep them on my head. What's the quality lightweight comfortable item these days?

I have a couple older peltors comtacs I use for the range, competition and hunting. They gel cups make them fine for 8 hours +.

I have the in the ear peltors too, but I can never get ear buds to stay in when I get all hot and moist.

actually I have them and wear them at work was just hoping for something a bit higher end and less auditory distortion

I loved the otto's, they worked well for about 2.5 years, moved to Trophy ear when the otto's fell apart. The model I use now uses hearing aid batteries and will get me through a two day prs match on a set with no issue.

The model I use does not have blue tooth on purpose as BT will half your battery life if not a little more.

Axil has the Xcor model that does ok and has blue tooth. I say they are ok as they will work around 5 hours before needing recharged due to the blue tooth and they also tend to pick up a lot of wind noise if you are in windy environments.

Another option, I do a lot of lawn mowing and use my old Sordin Supreme head set with a cheap Bue tooth wireless ear buds under them.

I also use the Otto Noize Barriers. Never had them in for eight hours, but have worn them for 4-5 hours and still had plenty of charge.

I wear Sound Gear in-ear, custom molded hearing pro for USPSA matches. They run off hearing aid batteries which will last for 3-4 days, and they cut out loud noises but are fine for conversations. Since they’re custom molded they are very comfortable. I’ve had them in for 10 hrs + at major matches for several days in a row. My model is not bluetooth capable however I believe Sound Gear makes one now that is bluetooth capable and runs off an app on your phone.

One downside is the NRR is only 27-ish. Fine for pistols but not good enough to be around Open pistols w/ compensators or popple holes for extended periods. Not bad for PRS rifles as long as you’re out in the open, but being under a cover kinda sucks.

Take a look at Sordin Supreme Pro-X SFA with 31db NRR. They are the very best muffs, and the most comfortable, muffs I have ever worn. They are not cheap. They are worth it. Sordin.com for info and I got mine from Amazon.

I been using a pair of Iso-Tunes when I'm flying for work or doing yardwork for the last year. I've worn them shooting a number of times, but I prefer muffin and/or earplugs for shooting. They claim an NRR of 26 and 10 hr of battery life when listening to music. 10 hr seems pretty accurate in my experience.

If you go with an over-the-ear option, make sure--as noted above--you can get gel cups. They usually make a huge difference in comfort as well as sealing around eye pro better.

Gel cups are definitely more comfortable if you use any sort of eyeglasses or eye protection.

However, if you don’t use eye pro/eyeglasses and use Peltor muffs, I discovered that 3M states that their gel cups don’t reduce sound as much as the stock cups. Their gel cups are something like about 1-2 dB worse. Don’t know about other makes.

Side note: After many years (edit: not as many as I thought! About 5 years), my 3M gel cups finally gave up the ghost.

Since I had started to use eye pro that doesn’t break the seal of the muff, I snapped on the stock cups and moved on. Eyeglass discomfort was the whole reason I had moved to gel cups.

Of course, sans glasses, some people still think the gel cups are more comfy than the stock cups. For me (without glasses) they are a tie. In fact, the gel cups are more sweaty for me.

Just putting this out there.

I have gone through a bunch of these things and when new, the normal cups just kind of squeeze and give a headache or ear discomfort after a few hours, while gel cups always seem more comfortable for all day use.

That said, I have noticed that on my older models that have a lot of hours on them, the ones with OG cups that are all wore out actually are pretty comfortably compared to when they are new.

I bought the muffs new with the stock ear cups installed and then bought the optional gel cups new as well.

My stock earcups were barely used as I immediately replaced them with the gel ones.

However, I did buy a slightly unpopular/unusual muff, the Peltor Tactical Pro, for $250 back in 2020. They are no longer made and are definitely better than the Sport Tactical 500 version (tried ‘em) so perhaps the stock cups were nicer?
