Has anyone gotten a C1 and thought they should have gotten a Max or vice versa? Aside from the 6 bolt vs 4 bolt ring caps, the rail clamps being different, and one being cantilevered and the other not, what's the big difference/deciding factor?

It's the cantilever that is the defining difference. If it's a small frame gas gun, you will need the standard C1 unless it's a monolithic upper or an extended upper, like the Ridgeline RD15. Otherwise you run out of rail space to push it forward far enough.
I have both and I like both a lot. I use the C1 Max on a bolt gun and regular C1 on AR's. They are both rock solid.

If I called badger it would be to berate them for not making the COMM cap match the existing ARC bolt pattern.
