Good morning, let’s see your coffee delivery devices.

Holy crap that looks like it gives a happy ending with your latte…..🤠

Can you go manual if you want to do something that is not listed on the buttons?
For sure. You will always have to use the brew group though. You can add darker roasts or other pre-ground coffee through a portal that bypasses the grinder, since oily beans aren’t great for the grinder, or decaf or whatever.
The milk frother can be manual and used as a manual machine. This thing is just easy.

BTW, I just realized that when the thread title said, "Coffee Delivery Devices" I thought it might also refer to the delivery of the coffee itself.

Hence: Mine is the USPS, which delivers:

MAGA Dark Roast

In my case, "Whole Bean." I store it whole bean and then grind it as needed.

Yeah looks nice! A buddy that worked for Starbucks said they teach them that the shots “go dead” after ten seconds.
My guess is that it’s more about haste and pumping as many customers through as quick as possible.

No offense to your buddy, but I wouldn't take any espresso advice from a Starbucks employee.

When I want just a regular brew this is the other delivery vehicle in my kitchen.

I even sell some 3D printed bin extensions on ebay for them.

Breville Grind Control Coffee Maker

Close - Breville Bambino Plus and DF64 gen 2
Nice I almost bought each of those. (I think I was looking at the 54.) I ended up sucked into the “pro-sumer” market with the Gaggia. I will be doing a PID mod.

The VS3 got me on “sexy” and price. It is the Gen2 so hopefully it will hold up better than the gen 1s

Is that a bottomless portafilter that you added?

Nice!

The Gaggiuno mod seems interesting - look up Lance Hendricks latest video on his Gaggiuno.

I almost went down that rabbit hole, but decided to not take on another project.

Yes, I got a bottomless portafilter. I also changed out the switch on the DF64 from the OEM plastic push button to a metal toggle switch. The OEM switch has failed on me twice, it's definitely the weakest point on that grinder.

Yeah I am not thinking full Gaggiuno. That’s just more than I want to get into. Two things I’d like to have are a pressure gauge and a PID.(temperature control.) Maybe a dimmer switch for pre infusion. (Not one of those wall switches some folks use ugh). I may also look to go with a new brass boiler, they came out with this year.

The nice thing about the Gaggia that I have is, it’s built like a little tank and completely serviceable. If you feel like mod-ing it, you can go crazy. If you want to leave it as it is, it works fine. It’ll pull a pro level shot with ease once you get set up . One thing’s for sure, you’ll be passing it down to your grandkids.

I posted this before but not sure if you guys noticed it. I really love this thing. Espresso beans last me a while. Keeping them fresh is a challenge. According to the whizbang espresso gurus the best way to do that is in the dark, room temperature, in a vacuum seal. They recommend this.

Push a button and it’s fully automatic.
Rechargeable lithium battery.
I tested it with my Kestrel D3 Drop and it works.
Works for grounds too.

I use this one for my beans - It's not a vacuum but it does seal.

Looked at this thread yesterday. Ended up buying a Breville Barista Pro this morning. Accessories will end up costing as much as the machine if not more. The Fellow Atmos Canister looks pretty cool, had to get one of those too

Great machine. That was the machine that first got me interested in a home espresso machine.

Yep, the accessories really can add up. That said, I poked around a while and saved some cash on Amazon and etsy. I 3D printed a couple things like the puck knocker and tamping station.

The good news with that machine you can get going pretty good right off the bat. With mine it was $500+ for the machine then I had to buy a grinder $300, scale, frothing cup, tamp etc. added up quick.

Did you get the fellows battery auto or the manual canister?

How fine do you peeps grind?
Or is there a method of defining it by mesh or something?

For example, Here are three different grinds from the burr grinder. Its adjustable.

What says all you?

Im doing drip coffee btw

Depends on the brew method.

Just eyeballing what you have there with no reference on hand so I could be off a bit.

That bottom grind looks like it might be about right (may be a bit coarse) for an automated Espresso machine, I have a DeLonghi that makes a half decent cup of coffee for the effort.

Top left is starting to look like a drip grind.

Top right seems more like a French press or percolator.

ETA: You said "settings" so I'm thinking it's not a blade grinder. I didn't ask if it was a burr grinder (conical, flat, high speed, low speed) because that's just another holy war as big as 9 vs 45.

The wife drinks various flavored InsTAnT "coffee" and keeps them all in these.

Looks serious…What kind of instant?

I panned the Starbucks instant coffee they came out with but it actually did very well. I didn’t think they should’ve used the word instant because it was different. It actually was some sort of micro grind process, unlike common instant coffee.

It did very well and I was happy to learn more about marketing by being wrong.

My Breville for drip has flat burrs. My VS3 espresso Grinder has conical burrs.

Supposedly flat burns give you more consistency in your grind size where conical gives you a fluffier grind with subtle flavor differences.

My goal with my intense dark roast is to kill the bitterness and taste a chocolate undertone. This is done by adjusting your grind size as you probably already know. It’s pretty awesome when you hit it on the nose.

Drip.

@doubloon i edited to add it is a burr grinder. Conical with high grade lunar ceramic.

"ceramic" ... oh my, aren't we posh. Or, if you prefer, bougie. 😁

I chased grinders for a while. Tried French press, drip, pour over, percolator, yada yada, blah blah but, for me, it really started coming down to the beans and the roast. The method can be managed but method doesn't matter without the right material.

Early years was coffee with chicory, didn't know anything else existed, thought people put chicory in coffee because they liked it. Then we upgraded to 100% coffee ... Folger's, Maxwell House, whatever ... it all tasted like nectar after chicory.

A good Italian roast of beans with mild acidity and as few fruity/citrusy flavors as possible is the sweet spot for me but that doesn't seem to be what most people like otherwise it would be easier to find.
