Good morning, let’s see your coffee delivery devices.

In our aeropress, we picked up a few of those stainless mesh filters and use those instead of the paper ones. The grind is just a touch bigger/coarser than what plugs said mesh.

I'll try to remember to get a pic of it tomorrow.

It was a few of the Elder Squirrels that got me onto roasting my own beans. Now our coffee is guaranteed fresh, and almost always "less than a week old".

Next step will be to do a system that can handle more than 1 lb at a time.

^^Are we still mad at them? Hard to keep track anymore.
oh we be pissed…

Man, I may have to get back into making coffee after scrolling this thread. The only thing holding me back is having to be up at 3am, which is much too early to be a functioning human

They make programmable coffee makers. Add water and coffee before bedtime, hit start, wake up to the sound of brewing coffee.

On mornings I just have brewed coffee. I roll over and say “Siri make coffee”. When the cat hears the grinder start, she starts her meow-fest. Very exciting…..

Have one of these on the Breville Grind control: https://a.co/d/gewkRNo

I posted this before but not sure if you guys noticed it. I really love this thing. Espresso beans last me a while. Keeping them fresh is a challenge. According to the whizbang espresso gurus the best way to do that is in the dark, room temperature, in a vacuum seal. They recommend this.

Push a button and it’s fully automatic.
Rechargeable lithium battery.
I tested it with my Kestrel D3 Drop and it works.
Works for grounds too.

More on the fellows vacuum canisters.

I ran the kestrel Drop and took some screen shots. Ambient then after the canister finished its vacuum cycle. I am at 7200’ above sea level.

Going to see how it holds overnight…..

I was gonna add that you should not use a metal spoon to stir your coffee, it changes the taste. Use wooden stir sticks or my preference, a paddle.

Unless you live here...in which case you're gonna need a much bigger paddle.

This morning. Interesting the density altitude has flipped. I’m suspecting that the starting density altitude was out of range of the drop.

So I lost a little more than 1 on the inHg scale overnight.

Based on some limited research, I did this density altitude on this one looks spot on so this is the equivalent of flying it 31,000 feet in an unpressurized cabin.

At some point this thing supposed to kick on to maintain vacuum so we’ll see when that happens. I suspect it still within range at this point.

I have a J8 (same same) that has replaced my recently demised Pico Barista which lasted about seven years. These super-automatics get extreme heavy use here.
I don’t mind a little barista work in the morning. There are some great manual machines that will make anything. But…, my wife wants to push a button and get the drink she wants. so $3k+…

I like Lattes. May not be manly, but I likes what I likes.

I got a bit of ribbing here when I said I drink lattes. Somehow drinking espresso with milk is "not manly" but this place is filled with 6.5 shooters 🤔

I drink often Cortados. Enough milk to tame it but not so much that it’s a milk drink, seasoned with espresso.

However when dialing in your shots, you really need to raw dog it…..straight espresso.

I don’t mind it at all but sometimes at 5am I would just rather press a button and be a lazy fuck

When you really start to channel your lazy fuck and reach master level you learn your Delonghi thing has a x2 button which activates when you press the espresso button. If I understand it correctly it makes 2 espressos, in one cup if you use the right cup.

When you reach grandmaster level lazy fuck you figure out on those days when you really need a boost pressing the espresso button plus the x2 button three times followed by the espresso button once you get a full cup of pure black adrenaline (7 espressos) with just enough room for a tablespoon of honey. Pictured below with one espresso consumed. If that won't get you past your morning constitutional you need surgery.

Went and ordered this thing after reading this. Fucking amazing purchase. Did not research enough and now I’m looking at the Juras. Thought the Breville could be a buy once cry once but didn’t see the super automatics.

I looked at Jura as well when I was buying my Oracle Touch, and was nearly sold on them. I went to try out their machines and was not impressed with the milk based drinks, like lattes or cappuccinos. It was like something you'd get in the waiting room at a car dealer.

The Oracle does substantially better milk foam. With a bit of practice it's within spitting distance, IMO, of what a coffee shop would produce.

You also have more control over the espresso brew in terms of pre-infusion time, brew time, grind size, grind dosing with the Oracle; or you can set it for the beans you're using and just press "Go".

IMO, I'd keep the machine you have, or upgrade to an Oracle Touch for greater convenience, rather than going to Jura. If you have a Williams-Sonoma store near you, you can basically go in and demo them and try the end results.

I use less milk on my lattes than say, Starbucks would, so the espresso:milk ratio is better in my opinion.

You're right on about dialing in the shots, you have to drink it straight to make sure you're on track. I quite enjoy straight espresso, the problem for me is that I tend to drink it really quickly, but my urge for coffee and drinking something hot isn't satisfied and I'll keep pulling doubles. Lately I've had to cut back to one double espresso and a double espresso Americano per day. Saves $$ on beans I guess!
