Wow that is crazy. I have plenty of bolts from picking up barrel kits barely used here and there. I'll watch the buy/sell and probably find a full large bolt head in .58x for just a little more than the bolt head through DT. Thanks!
Yea can be very tempting to get another barrel. Could get expensive to support all of them.

I did, thanks for the suggestion. DT did get back to me. They said you have to call them to order bolt heads and bolt parts though MGW has everything except bolt heads. Odd for a platform marketed for versatility changing calibers easily to not have bolt heads easily ordered. Either way no big deal I pick up a used bolt at some point or call them and order the head I need.
I think the vast majority of users that been just swapping complete bolts for speed and simplicity in the field. The modular bolt head feature was more of a manufacturing cost savings, as far as I'm aware.
True dogtown and I do the same thing. Only reason I'm wanting to buy a bolt head is I have one more bolt than I have barrels from various trades, acquiring barrels etc.
Picked up a 10rd short action magazine and a Desert Tech Operators Maintenace Kit in a barrel deal. I'll never use either if anybody is looking. They are listed in the classifieds.
Has anyone received their cheek riser from @spamassassin. I DM’d him in early October then spoke with him on 10/08/2024. Said I was the first to order (3 SRS and 1 HTI). Sent payment shortly thereafter and checks cashed. Haven’t heard a word since. DM’d him on 01/01/2024 and again yesterday but no response.
Hasn’t logged on in over a month. He’s active enough on the hide that I can’t imagine it was anything malicious. Wonder if something happened to him…
I bought a sizable amount of .338Lapua from him just before he moved to South Africa back in June/July. He had periods of no comms and slow responses. However, he came through. I have complete trust in him coming through. He mentioned those with orders have his ph# and they can call at any time for updates.
Found his number and got a quick call back. Sounds as all will be good.

I’ve been out of the SRS game since essentially they released the M2. What’s the minimum barrel length for the M2 platform to still function with a suppressor? If I understand it, the only covert length handguard is just a standard A2 Covert correct?
I don't think the handguard length has changes. Will need 22.5" barrel nominally.

Well, I want covert length so I really don’t think I want the M2. I like the full length pic rail and the ARCA rail but I know the ARCA rail can be added anyway. So I guess I don’t necessarily think I want the M2.
Im with ya. I have a covert A2 with an Arca rail where it needs it.
Have a SRSA2 with full length Arca rail.
Can put pic slots where ya need them on the A2. Find myself using dedicated thermals instead of clip on anyways.
Figure I can still keep the covert pretty light without all the extra stuff.

You ever consider trying any of those TEN-X projectiles in your .50? A lot of guys on the FCSA forum swear by them.
My mate ( in the pic ) just uses Hornady Factory ammo...he does quite well with it..
I load and use the 750 Amax projectiles as i purchased 4000 of them early on..
Not sure if the TEN-X are available in Aus..
Yes he does do quite well. From what I can see on the target that subMOA at a mile. Exceptional for factory ammo.
I bought an HTI 50 recently, and will take the barrel to my shop tomorrow and measure the threads for you.
Is buying a short pic rail for an M2 to convert it to a Covert not an option? Can’t seem to find any short rails for sale, only M2 conversions for a covert. I’d like to have the option to run 16-18” barrels. Finding the covert handguard isn’t an issue, it’s the short rail.
My Alpha 50 is supposed to be M25x1.5. It is smaller than my DT408 which is M22x1.5. Makes me wonder if Elite Iron sent a direct barrel thread in a different thread instead of the over the brake threads?

From my measurements: OD mic'd 1.433"
That would likely be 1-7/16" diameter, however it is also 36.5 mm. The thread pitch gauges at 18 TPI (.0555") and 1.4 mm (.0551")
So, 1-7/16 - 18 (inch)
Or, M36.5 x 1.4 (metric)
By measurements these appear to be interchangeable. I am sure 1-7/16 - 18 is available. Not sure about M36.5 x 1.4 mm.
I know 1-7/16 - 18 will definitely work, quite frankly either will work. I would bet on 1-7/16 - 18 (inch).
Hope this helps, DT's website doesn't. They don't elaborate on how their/ EI's suppressor attaches, or whether the threads on the brake are even used. EI doesn't show this either, but does list two available threads (not these) Do you know of anyone having a suppressor that attaches to this brake?
Your measurement shows 1.175" on the minor diameter (=29.845mm) if we assume it it 1.5mm pitch (29.845+1.5=31.345mm) it woul appear to be M31 x 1.5
On the .896 minor diameter (=22.758mm) assume 1.5 pitch (22.758÷1.5=24.258mm) this one looks like M24 x 1.5
EI's website shows the Alpha to be direct thread attachment and either 1"-14 or 7/8"-14. They must do something special for DT.

I have sent a info request to DT about their 50 suppressor and mounting, as well as the threads on the OD of the brake, what they are intended for.
I too want a suppressor that attaches to the brake.
I'm so confused. I would think M25x1.5 would be a bigger opening than M22x1.5? The M22x1.5 does mount over the brake for the 375/408ct. Elite says the Alpha 50 is a direct mount for the HTI and even told Silencer Central that.My issue is I ordered a M25x1.5 and it is much smaller than the M22.
M25 x 1.5 is larger than M22 x 1.5 by 3mm (.1181") that being said, your 375/408 that mounts over the brake is M31 x 1.5, the barrel thread is M22 x 1.5 so your 375/408 is larger than a direct thread M25 x 1.5 by 6mm (.2362")
1.175"- .896" = .279" by your measurements.

Just call EI, Kathy will answer, and she will direct you to Dale. They skipped shot show this year, so they're around.
I did. I talked to Dale. He asked me what was on box, I told him M25x1.5. He said that's what it is then. I have both cans. The M25 is basically 7/8" the M22 is basically 1 1/4". How can the be? When you go to the drop down menu you pick your threads not your rifle. Am I making sense?
What you are missing is your 375 /408 barrel has M22 x 1.5 threads holding the brake on. By your measurements, the brake has M31 x 1.5 threads on it that your suppressor screws on.
The DT 50 barrel does have M25 x 1.5 threads on it that the brake screws on, the brake has either M36.5 x 1.5 or 1-7/16 - 18 threads on the OD to supposedly screw a suppressor on, like your 375 / 408 does.
Oh ok. So when I ordered the M22 x1.5 they must send the bigger bore. I bet the DT in the part number designate that.
I just got a response from DT regarding a suppressor mounting on the 50 cal brake:
"Currently we do not have one that will fit on the threads. I had heard silencer co was developing one but I’m not sure if it ever went anywhere. I would recommend reaching out them."
Look up Desert Tech's HTI rifle on youtube. Shot show 2025 video 47 seconds long. DT rep "Mark" specifically said the bottom rifle is in 50 bmg and the Guardian Defense suppressor is attached over the Desert Tech brake unless I misunderstood. I took my brakes off today, both the 50 and 416. I'll find out the difference in recoil soon.
Let me know how it goes, I wondered why EI states on the 50 there is more "perceived" recoil with the suppressor than without it? They dont tell you, you had to remove the brake to use it, I even talked to Dale last week about getting one on my HTI 50, he did say their brakes aren't that effective though.
Will do. That's what Dale told me yesterday to. I'm sure it works a lot better than not having one at all though. I'm just glad the brakes came off a lot easier than expected.
Please do not shoot your 50 caliber rifle without a break on it.

No bareback lol. The suppressor should mitigate some of the recoil. I'm hoping anyway.
I would think a suppressor could be better than a brake, in that it is trapping gas inside for a longer time, and seems like it would push forward while doing that, but it doesn't redirect the gas and produce thrust in an oposet direction either. You have fired these with brakes, please let us know what you find out.
Because the muzzle brake diverts the gas away from you. With a can it is diverting the gas forward, thus creating more pressure back to the shooter. Unlike smaller calibers, the can doesn't eliminate recoi, it delays it. Hence why TBAC has the muzzle brake at the end of their new 50... that's the quick and nasty answer.
No, that's not the case, preceived recoil is less, but not the 50. Have you shot one with a can and without? Sounds like a no, but that's why TBAC makes the brake at the end, it's a game changer
In my opinion, and the empirical data tends to support this, somewhere around 338 Lapua and above, a suppressor is inferior enough to a good break that there is a perceptible increase in recoil with the suppressor compared to an efficient muzzle break. When you get up to 50 caliber, it is very noticeable. And 50 caliber is hard enough to shoot effectively at baseline even with a good break.
This is why I removed my elite iron 375 can and break from my 375 Chattah and now I just shoot it with a terminator T5 muzzle brake
From now on, I am never going to shoot anything above 338 suppressed unless it has an anchor break on it like the new thunder beast Magnus cans
If you have the opportunity, screw that brake on hand tight and shoot a shot and take a video and then unscrew it and screw on the 50 caliber can and take a video or better yet post a video of the whole thing in sequence so that we can seethe movement of the rifle under both conditions
