45 vs 355 For Pit Bull Defense

Just carry a concealable sirloin... but in all honesty a dry chemical fire extinguisher to the nose and eyes works best. Otherwise, it's no different than any other determined wild critter, apply CNS shots of whatever flavor you choose.

Since you're talking a low, fast moving target, I would opt for capacity.
I've seen three or four pit bulls shot with handguns. It tends to cause a rapid change in their demeanor.

Situational awareness.

Once it latches onto you or someone else it’s a lot harder to attempt the shot, as I’m sure everyone here is aware.
I knew a cop when I lived in Daytona Beach who shot a pit once. As it charged him, there was a woman with a few kids in the background. He waited until it latched onto his hip, then shot it in the head.

About 20 years ago I was serving a Domestic Violence petition on a guy. As I knocked on the door, he jerked it open and shout "get him". His 90# pitbull jumped up and grabbed me by the duty belt. I shot it point blank in the top of the head with a G21 in 45 acp (Speer Gold Dot) and all it did was knock the dog out. I shoved it into a bathroom and shut the door. Another officer eventually took it to the vet, the bullet was stuck in the bone but did not penetrate. He ended up adopting the dog and laughed every time he brought it around the dept. It.would growl and bark at me but always kept its distance 🤣

You can't fight off a pitbull attack. All you can do is pray and go to Jesus. Even a 9mm lung remover just bounces off them. If you're lucky it might ricochet off them and kill you before they get you. Don't become a statistic and be counted among the millions per year killed by these evil creatures. While you were waiting to contact your reps, a dozen toddlers and 17 little old ladies were mauled to death. Stop the insanity for the children. We need to outlaw these menacing creatures.

I always have a whipping dog around. Any pits come around I just start beating this one. That will teach them.

Sounds like they should be an NFA item.

I have a giant dislike for pitbulls as they have caused injuries on many relatives and friends, all from the dope dealer / thug guy's dogs. The neighbor down the street had 2 of those stupid things that would try to eat through the chain-link fence every time someone walked by and since it was a main thoroughfare it was constant. One day after he had gone to work he called me and asked if I could run over and help his wife as the dogs were in a fight. I grabbed my XD-45 and wondered down there as the two pitts had each other by the throat with blood squirting all over. I just asked her which one she likes the best.

How many of you guys advocating long guns go for your daily walk with a long gun? Thought so.

Glock 19. The solution to most aggressive related problems. Buffalo Bore hard cast up first, because guaranteed penetration is a thing.
There's always one who will reply with a gun brand or model instead of a caliber- in a thread specifically about caliber. :ROFLMAO:

Don't use a 10mm or .40S&W!!! They do nothing on pits. 😄

I helped my wife with this one as it was last minute right before Christmas.

Likeable enough pit that got out and came back shot. Judging by the entrance of the bullet (hip), it was shot from the 6 O'clock as it was running away. The bullet smashed the trochanter of the femur as it traveled (from 6 to 12 here), before traveling about 14" and coming to rest against the liver.

I measured the base of the bullet...10mm exactly.

Almost 4 weeks later and it is still alive.
