Suppressors Form 4 wait time

Procured from my LGS, efiled via Silencer Shop. Certified 12/31/24, Stamp approval came on 01/02/25! With the new year holiday squeezed in the middle. That blew my mind to say the least.

I submitted Form4 Single shot trust on 12-17 and was approved 12-31. A lot better than the 9 months my last one took.
I backordered a Polonium 30 in mid November on a Single Shot Trust and got a S/N Christmas week, I didn't verify the Eform til 12/31 and it got approved within hours of that same day. First Eform so not really sure when my wait started officially. Much better than the 436 days for my first can in 2021 haha.

Yeah, the new system in place ROCKS. I remember my 1st can, Gemtech GMT-Halo. All snail-mail paperwork transfer. Took about a year for the stamp. That was back in 2017.. My how times have changed. For the MUCH better!

The above posted can is #10 in the inventory for me. I think I'm good now.. maybe :ROFLMAO:

submitted back in Oct on Eform. still waiting
That sucks. There's a thread on ARFCOM full of folks going through your type of wait pain. No rhyme or reason to it either. Mine was individual, and I've never had a delay. Hope yours come in soon brother. You might try emailing [email protected] with your control number. Some folks on ARFCOM are having good luck getting their stuff processed faster. Worth a shot.

Edit: Straight outta Google-Fu:

"To request an update on the status of an ATF NFA Form 4 background check, you can email the NICS Liaison. You should include your full name, Social Security number, date of birth, state of residence, submission date, serial number, manufacturer, model name, item type, and transferor."

Edit II: Ya know, I got to thinking about this. I'd be very careful sending all that info via email. Unless it's highly encrypted. Might as well just send them the control number (as they should have all the info they need from that.) If they want more info, go from there. Just say'n..

emailed them the other day using the [email protected] got a reply back ""
our ATF/NFA application is in process. When an application is completed, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) will provide the final determination. Currently, there is no further status information available

I got the same one last month…. Been waiting since June ‘24 on a single person formal trust. I’m getting antsy

On 9/21/24 I posted:
Q Porq Chop for my 8.6BLK SBR build, using my NFA Trust through Silencer Shop.

Purchased 09/21/2024
Certified: 09/27/2024
Submitted: 09/27/2024
Approved: TBD

Today, around mid-day, I got my 4 Form approval (FINALLY) AND I got my Form 1 (SBR) approval

Approved: 01/13/2025

Unfortunately, my dadgum work schedule is crazy busy until FRIDAY (01/17/25)...so I'll be picking up the Q Porq Chop and having the lower NFA engraved.

Spring 2024 for Dominus TBAC

End of Nov 2023 for a Surefire RC3

Contacted congressmen for help. Turns out that the crack FBI NICS team was blowing it off. Congressmen’s aide says they can’t do anything more. Their FBI contact suggested a damn Upin (but that works only for new submissions).

Sorry, not opening that Upin can of worms (govt file of your future firearms purchases, not just NFA).

LGS says they have had customers in limbo for over a year. Cannot do anything unless they are denied. Having no approval OR denial = purgatory forever.

Despondent.

Noticed the email for NICS in this thread.

Some drinking.

A month goes by. Finally email NICS in a weak, last gasp for air. Seriously thought the effort was a retarded waste of bytes and packets.

NEXT DAY BOTH SUPPRESSORS ARE APPROVED!!! (today)

I cum in pants multiple times.

I’m so relaxed now. 😎

Some parts of government actually give a shit. Like the NICS Liaison peeps.

Edit: mind you I have five or so previously approved suppressors plus a bunch of guns, so it isn’t my record that is a problem here.

I guess the FBI has to clear you via NICS BEFORE the ATF does squat. I guess that makes sense, procedurally.

But here I was this whole time cursing the ATF’s unholy name. But they got their part done in less than a day after the dang FBI got their butt in gear!

Can’t wait to burn some ammo through those cans at the range!

(watch me have immediate baffle strikes 😂 😭)

Back to my core belief that is depends on the examiner your name is assigned to. I have had exceptional examiners get things done in record time. Other times things just dragged along.

Filed 12/02
Emailed Nics liaison on Jan 03 and get response that information has been transmitted to atf.

Still patiently waiting.

Oh yeah, above submissions were filed in a trust. That’s probably why it took a forever. Examiners are most likely largely judged on throughput, and trusts take longer. Grrrrrrr…

"Your ATF/NFA application is in process. When an application is completed, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) will provide the final determination. Currently, there is no further status information available"

Seems like a canned response. My other NFA items took longer than usual too but ultimately approved.

Hmmm, that sorta sounds like the NICS check is done and handed off to the ATF?

But, another reasonable reading could mean just the opposite.

Clear as mud. I don’t get why opacity is needed for this process?

My trust was was submitted 12/18 still waiting grrrrr
Sorry. I figured it would take at least a few months with it being a trust. Even my form 1 can took me 11 months when I did that years ago so, I fully expected it to take a while. Maybe they have changed how they do it so they can get upin cans out of the way or something? Hopefully this nonsense will get done away with entirely and we can stop paying a tax on a muffler soon
