Hunting & Fishing Let’s start a coyote thread.

Saw this guy coming out of the brush and started running towards me. He saw me get into position and turned around 180 degrees and running away from me. I whistled to see if he would stop but he didn't. So I said why not, and I let him have it.

Nice shot! He didn’t feel a thing.

Dude, that camera angle makes that coyote look like he's 100lbs.

There you go, no forced perspective. I should have held up my thumb and forefinger for scale but no one outside Canada would get the Kids In The Hall reference.

I was going to go to Bass Pro to get some white camo pants but I guess it doesn't make a huge difference. First one I hadn't even taken out my Bluetooth speaker I just saw him and played rabbit squeals with it in my pack to stop him. His buddy ran to the next field over and I ran after him.

Nice. Do you get some long shots there? That looks like a heavy rig.

Yeah it's about 15 pounds. Honestly I use it for the novelty. My AIs were heavier than that. A T3 Lite would probably work just as well but it doubles as my PRS/NRL Hunter rifle. A long day I only walk maybe five miles and usually way less so I can tolerate the weight.

Shots at 600 to 700 meters are possible around here but between the wind, getting a good range on them and not the gentle hill in front of or behind them it's tricky so I try to get closer shots. One of these was at 407 meters.

Nice shot!

I can't whistle so I usually try barking or yelling HEY! if I don't have a caller going. Sometimes it works.

Also that is an excellent choice of optic you have. I wish they had a capped windage and locking elevation turrets like the older LRHS.

Yeah a bark could have worked too, but I didn't do too bad even with him not having stopped haha.

Yeah I like these scopes too. I have 3 total. I never know which is which (referring to lrhs or lrts) since they're all very similar and I have both models. What I do wish, is that this lrts on the grendel had the thinner reticle that my other 3-12 has. That other one with the thinner reticle is the fde model, not sure that makes a difference. And I wish that fde model was illuminated too like this black model is haha.

The thicker reticle covers most if not all the dot when I'm trying to shoot tiny groups at 100 during load development. The fde model with the thinner reticle works better for this.

I thought the first gen LRHS had the capped/locking turrets and illumination and the big donut in the reticle. Very solid and versatile setup.

Your scope wishes and wants are like me with packs (and scopes too.) I love the size, shape, and scabbard on my Eberlestock Gunrunner but the top loading single main compartment, open top pockets, and weird butt flap closure make me wish it was more like a Lodrag but the same size.

😂 I get it! But I’m close to Canada (minnesota)

That first pic is hilarious
"I squish you!"

Was cycling through chicken and fawn distress with a decoy spinner going. He crossed the edge of the clearing left to right at 350 yards heading upwind so I thought I spooked him. Two minutes later he crested a hill 100 yards away hugging the treeline and I got him running at me, although it wasn't my cleanest shot. I guess the wind was so light he preferred cover over getting a good scent.

I was optimistic about my stand and calls because this whitetail buck was curious and sauntered back and forth for twenty minutes and the yotes seem to hand out with them a lot. Coyote came in at around thirty minutes.

Could have been another double if I was quicker transitioning from binos to rifle, or if I had been a bit more decisive of where to move to head his partner off.

350 yards and he only stopped for a second and was turned slightly towards me. I was blaring fawn distress but they didn't pay much attention as they crossed the field ahead of me. Not sure if they were planning on coming closer or not.

A moose came to see what was going on and when I made to the yote she was in my stand.

In another thread someone thought it was ridiculous I wanted a rangefinder that worked below -10°C/14°F. Well the last five yotes I have got the temperature has been -15 to -20°C/5 to -4°F. They seem to be much more bold when the temps are lower.

I keep my rangefinding binos in a chest rig with an electric hand warmer inside. I am planning to acquire a weapon mounted unit but if that unit can't get cold I may velcro the handwarmer to it or something.

My long shot of the year with a thermal 😉. Was +/- 10 yards of being about 190 yards with my 18" .308.

Didn't realize she was quartering slightly towards me, and I hit a couple inches back from where I was aiming. I really thought I buggered up big time as she spun and started to run...and I saw the big glow in the guts. However, 10 steps into it she fell over and that was it. Not my finest work, but this was standing and using a Triggerstick.

Entry point is unremarkable, but I stuck a twig in the hole.

Had one like that last night. Took a quick shot at one off the tripod at 289 yards and wasn’t real steady. Hit him in front of the hind legs broadside. He dropped in his tracks though. The 80gr ELD-VT does a lot of damage. Shot another one on the run at 282 yards and hit her quartering away in the hip and had the same results. The bright moon and snow made last night tough. My son took one picture with the flash with a 5 second exposure.

Got 3 last Friday and four on 3 stands last night. Likeing the 80gr ELD-VT so far. Farthest shot has bee 300 facing me, had a golfball sized exit out the back. Two last night were 88 and 98 yards. The 98 took it in the face and out under the leg. Had a chunk of lung about a foot away.

I might have missed it in a previous posting. Was this out of a 6 Creed or 6ARC? Or something other?

Headed out for a mid-winter session this coming weekend. Catch 22 this time of year in my neck of the woods. The snow is deeper, the air is colder, and the coyotes are hungrier and more receptive to calls. That being said, the deep ass snow and cold temps generally just make everything a big pain in the ass.

Bitter out last night, dipped down into double negatives with howling winds, warm and comfy in the shooting shack tho.

Caught a single making his way to the sheep pen. 22br took care of the rest.

What's your load in the 22BR? I am having a 26" Bartlein with 1800 rounds down it cut down to 20" from the breech end and rechambered for a shorter coyote brifle.

Got 3 with my son Friday evening. Did two of them a favor as they both had mange. Watched #3 catch a mouse just before we shot her. The 80gr ELD-VT did a number on her head at 256 yards. Shot another one local last night that was harassing some cows that were calving. The owner found one with a damaged ear and another missing it's tail. No pictures, I was trying to get back for the rst of the Chief's game!
