Any 1911 aficionados here?

Oh, and the Baer frames have been much more "close" to the standard frame for at least the last three years. Over on 1911aficianados I measured mine against a few of my other 1911s and it was the exact same.

There were many years though where that wasn't the case.

I had a 3 digit Les Baer frame that had a slight crack in the dust over. The old guy I bought it from was the original owner and paid $900 for it new and barely put 500 round through it. I contacted them to see what I could do about it and they quoted me $3000 to fix it. As far as I am concerned they are a joke; way to stand behind your product. If the gun was shot to shit I get it, but it wasn’t. Had they asked me to send it in to check it out that would be one thing, but no they just sent me a quote.

Just got back from my LGS. Had the opportunity to handle the Springfield TRP and a DW Valor. The strap checkering on the TRP was obnoxiously uncomfortable. Uncomfortable as all hell to grip. The trigger had some substantial slip and a heavy pull.

The DW Valor was much nicer. Trigger had minimal creep and a much lighter pull. The strap checkering was much more subdued and reasonable.

I’m very curious how an Alchemy Prime Elite or Quantico could compare to the Dan Wesson.

As much better than the DW, than the DW is to the TRP. It is going to be noticeable when you step up to a semi-custom, but it isn't earth-shatteringly different. You are paying that $2K premium to get everything hand-fit together. Modern machining can get it pretty close.

My DW has just the slightest rattle when you shake it vigorously. That is non-existent with a semi-custom. Comparatively, my Colts rattle like the ghost of Christmas past...yet they still shoot extremely well.

And I think with semi-customs that are hand-fit, there will be a slight variation in the quality on occasion (especially the ones that are done assembly line). Just because the primary slide/frame fit guy is out for two weeks with a new baby etc... doesn't mean that the whole operation is going to shut down. I'm sure that the QC department catches more than we'll ever know about.

Once you get used to that obnoxious checkering you’ll love the feel of it. At least that’s how it was for me.
