The State of Texas is finally ready to put another dirtbag in the dirt after years of legal wrangling. On February 5, 2025, convicted murderer Steven Lawayne Nelson is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection at the Huntsville death row unit. In 2011, Nelson with two other accomplices broke into Northpointe Baptist Church in Arlington to rob the place and Nelson had beaten and strangled 29 year old pastor Clint Dobson to death and also beaten Dobson's 69 year old female assistant to the point where she required constant medical care afterward. The group took off with the wallets, cell phones, laptops, and other personal belongings of their victims and were later caught after investigators pinged the location of the stolen electronics and recorded Nelson on a tapped phone call laughing about the robbery and murders. Even after receiving the unanimous death sentence from a panel of jurors, Nelson would go on to murder a fellow inmate and constantly assault guards and medical staff with bottles of urine and feces before he was transported to an isolation cell at Polunsky, reserved for the most dangerous of inmates. On 02/04/2025, Nelson would be transported by TDCJ van to the Huntsville Unit where all of Texas' lethal injection executions are carried out. He will be placed into a 24 hour monitoring cell and given his last meal before taking the infamous 'long walk' down the hallway in shackles to the death chamber where the witnesses of the State as well as the family members of his victims would be seated across from him through a one way view pane of glass.
