That’s right, you heard it here first folks, our very own Marxist turned capitalist flip flopper now has a rifle scope named after Facebook… eh, Meta.

Okay all joking aside, one of the most exciting optics announcements at SHOT is the new S&B Meta 3-18x42 but with a FFP flavor. Here are the specs, read them and weep, no - I mean literally weep because #FOVGate strikes again and the USA version gets shafted or restricted due to Swaro’s sketchy patent. But even with the lower FOV this could prove to be an amazing crossover optic, but where will the price land on Schmidt’s wheel of fortune, will it be $3k, $4k or maybe even $5k…

I have a couple 2fp Meta, I will be getting the new 1fp version for sure.

Turrett configuration and reticle looks very good, and almost as lightweight as the 2fp version.

Hoping they follow up with a Exos 1fp

Been waiting FOREVER on this; the first META 2ndFP/ #7 was a huge tease. Dissapointed in the FOV difference and that AWFUL price. I'll take a ZCO 420 and the extra 1/2lb....and $1200. As much as it's a compromise, might be sticking with a ZCO 210...if/when it comes.

On the home page of S&B, it lists the MSRP...

Keep in mind that when the Schmidt 6-36 was first introduced we also saw astronomical numbers for MSRP, but then Schmidt dropped the price unexpectedly about a month or two after bringing to the USA market. If MAP is anywhere close to these numbers I expect sales to be somewhat anemic here in the states which may prompt a quick price drop similar to the 6-36... time will tell.

At those prices the Tangent Theta TT315M is cheaper, the only issue is I'm not a huge fan of the mildot reticle and Gen2 XR and Gen3 XR are a bit "light" when it comes to 3x magnification performance, I am wondering if the SBX reticle doesn't suffer from the same? Maybe Tangent will finally take notice of the crossover community and the need for a usable reticle that's not a 1990's mildot...

Here is direct from Schmidt, surprisingly, it appears that, finally, someone has been listening to the cries of many crossover shooters, it's almost as if someone at Schmidt has been reading the Hide threads...
SBX stands for Schmidt & Bender Crossover Reticle. It is called “Crossover” because it combines various applications such as long or close range shooting and can be used on low or high magnification.
^^^ This is exactly what we've been asking from manufacturers, kudos to Schmidt for addressing the gap in the marketplace; however, it's one thing to claim your reticle does this but it's quite another for it to actually be usable in the field at low mags. In lieu of the reticle design itself, I'm not sure how well this will work without illumination but with Schmidt's latest illumination modules I think it could just be bright enough to help when you're in the thick stuff.

I keep looking at the Schmidt SBX reticle and can't help but think how many design queues they took from the March FML-TR1 reticle that @koshkin designed for them (March), I still think this is March's best crossover reticle to date (well maybe the FML-TR1H I like a bit more) but wish they would invest in brighter illumination technology like most of their competition including S&B now. The March 4.5-28x52 has been one of my favorite crossover scopes for a number of years now but I do wish it was a 3.2-20x52 instead as I would find that mag range more beneficial than 4.5-28, but this new Schmidt 3-18x42 with this new reticle may be an excellent option for crossover and gas gun use if priced right (at current pricing they have essentially priced themselves out of the market).

Been into the S&B's for almost 20 years now, and have watched all sorts of price swings. At least 3x now, they've ballooned up in price, had an adjustment/moment of clarity. Mind you, today we're also limited to Euro's pricing fuckery.

    Re: reticle,
I'm happy to see they put the duplex stadia at 10x on 3,6,9. I'm hoping that at lower magnification, it looks basically like a #7 duplex.
