Aero Precision Solus Unboxing on the Live

Thanks guys. The whole rifle can be pieced together without the trigger for $150 less. I prefer the Special so looks like I’ll pick up a barreled action and the chassis separately and put the $150 saved towards a TT special.

@John.Warren4 Will the new long-action Solus and chassis, and the lightweight hunter chassis be debuting that SHOT this week? I'm waiting on that magnum long-action to build my 7mm PRC on...
Is “long action” the only difference in the V2 coming out? I know they mentioned an abbreviated rail as an option on the hunter actions but I wasn’t sure if there were more enhancements to come.

I want the short action but don’t want to buy a V1 and see a V2 in 2 months. 😂

Personally, I don't like interrupted rails, but that's just me... The full-rail is stronger and more rigid. But it's more personal preference, because the Solus is built like a tank, regardless.

I saw that they did release videos of a long-action at SHOT, so I'm excited now. I can finally get my PRC build underway once I can buy a magnum LA. Hopefully with a full 20 MOA rail on top.

It uses either a Savage Small-Shank with the barrel nut (nut and wrench provided in the box if you buy just the action), or you can have a shouldered-prefit made and headspaced for a Zermatt Origin. Either will work. Personally, I am not a fan of barrel nuts, I much prefer shouldered barrels that are torqued on. But that's just my preference.
I just want to double check before I order.
Does this mean that Zermat Origin barrels are a direct “bolt on” to Aero Solus actions?

Thanks. That will all be done before final assembly.

I keep getting the question ‘what is the shank diameter?’ Anyone know?

I won’t be using a barrel nut.
I’m going to be using a WTO switch lug system.

Just to specify, most companies are now offering Aero Solus prefits, and not just Zermatt Origin. Not sure if there is any difference, but I'd tell the person building the barrel that it's an Aero Solus, and not a Zermatt Origin.

Here is what you need to give them, if you're having a smith custom build you a Solus prefit barrel, and they are not sure the dimensions... This is straight from Aero Precision...

I was told they did it just to simplify it because people arnt always the brightest

But i am running an orgin proof prefit on my solus and checked headspace and was good to go

Yep, I know they're the same, because Aero said they were the same, but sometimes it's best to just verify the specs with the barrel builder just incase they have some weird specs that aren't 100% accurate.

Does anyone on this thread have a picture you could share of a Solus comp chassis build with the 7.5" hand guard?

Im thinking of building a blackout which won't need a long barrel but im wondering how weird or decent that would look like, with such a short hand guard. Thanks!

Thank you I did look at them but I an only finding pistols. Im wanting to build a rifle I have a few actions and barrels and I can buy the stock for 350 on midway right now.. it does come as a complete rifle stock. I would try and see what I can do with a 16 inch barrel but most likely will do a blackout with a 10-12 inch and form 1 it . Just seems like too good of a deal to pass up on

Unless you plan on SBR’ing it, you can’t run a stock on short barrel, that’s why they sell them as pistols.

Ive had orgins and i have a solus.....if you buy the solus on sale then its alright but my orgin is definitely nicer if we are talking "msrp" pricing

And dont order one from aero directly currently unless you want to wait months for it with no answers and spend hours in chat to get ahold of customer service just fyi

I have a Solus and Origin short action. I like the 60 degree throw, but my Origin is so smooth I would have to run them side by side to know which one I like better. The Origin is 28 oz where the Solus is 36 oz so I would not use a Solus for a lightweight build.

I like I can swap barrels between them too. The biggest issue right now is that Aero has completely lost their minds in the customer service department, as in it does not in any way exist. You can’t get them with their “chat” nonsense, it does not work. They don’t answer the phone nor messages. I sent in a request through their email tech line on 12/18/24 because a screw fell out of my Solus chassis rendering the mag catch unusable; I have not her back from them and it’s almost February.

I can not recommend anything Aero at this time due to their exceptionally poor customer service.

Zermatt, on the other hand, knocks it out of the park in customer service. They have always had an exceptional customer interface and I highly recommend any of their products.

I have had several solus actions. This is just my personal opinion but I think the Coup De Grace is the best bang for the buck. I currently own Impact, Defiance Ruckus, Zermatt TL3 and the CDG. I didn't like how the solus felt while feeding. The bolt body rides on the bolt stop during cycling, making it feel like a "drag" while cycling a full magazine. The CDG also rides the bolt stop the same way but feels way better. The solus is a great action for the money though and would still own one but I thinned the herd out, so they were the first to go. In my opinion, the Impact 737r is the smoothest action to run followed by the TL3 and CDG.

Thanks for the feedback. I had heard Aero was having customer service issues and Bergara was having QC issues. I'm leaning toward the Origin or CDG. I have also been looking at the EVO II.
Customer service for a Solus has been pretty much a non-issue. I've only ever heard of 1 guy getting an action that was missing pieces...And he did eventually get in touch with Aero, and they sent him the missing parts. Other than that, you shouldn't have any need for Aero's customer service. I have 5 Solus rifles and none of them have needed anything in probably close to 2,000 rounds (combined) now. They are great actions, and if you get one for under $800, you're getting a lot of features for the money.

My advice, if you want a Solus, buy one from a dealer, not straight from Aero, unless you're not in a hurry. If you are not in a hurry, and can wait a couple months, and you get a smoking deal on one of Aero's sales... Then go for it. You WILL get your product, just might take a while. Hopefully they'll get their CS and shipping issues figured out. Hopefully they'll fire the GM who's causing all this havoc. That would be a start to fixing everything.

But there's plenty of other dealers have big blowout sales several times a year on the Solus actions and rifles, and you can get smoking deals AND guaranteed shipping and customer service.

I agree, the chances of actually having to deal with Aero is probably slim and they do have alot of features I like for a great price. I'm not in a hurry, just trying to find the action I like the best. I have no experience with any of them, so trying to learn a much I can.

How does the Aero Solus compare to an Origin, CDG, or Bergara Premier? Does anyone have experience with one or more of these?

I have 2 Solus actions and a CDG. I like the feel of the CDG better and the being able to adjust the trigger hanger to time it makes it feel better as well. The 2 solus actions have the same triggertech triggers and have different bolt lifts.

Wouldn't that be production tolerance variance with the triggers, more so than the actions?

Perhaps. I could measure bolt lift, swap triggers then remeasure. I've even got an extra trigger I could throw in the mix. Might have the time to do that next weekend.
Also, if one trigger is older and been used more, more "broke-in", then it might be smoother in operation, therefore feeling lighter than the newer one. I have noticed this with several TT's that I have of the same model and bought at the same time, but one got used more than the other, and is lighter on bolt lift, because it's smoother in operation, because I've shot the rifle a lot more than the other one. The action is also slicker because it's had more cycles on it.
