Precision Rifle Gear New LRF with AB

From what some buddies have said, this device doesn’t have AB onboard. It uses a Bluetooth connection to an AB app on your phone to calculate dope.

I’d be shocked if that’s true and skeptical of its durability and capability.

Might even be less than that, but if you understand how the world of LRFs work you wouldn't be too worried. Plenty of companies just re-brand and use the same electronics.

Incorrect, their will be multiple options.

Most that run AB are 3k plus. This one is 1400.

And it's reliant on accessing the AB Synapse app via a Bluetooth connection to your phone. The $1400 device on Tango's site doesn't have AB software onboard.

Maybe there's a version coming later that does, but if so I suspect it will cost more.

Are you sure? I’ve been grabbing bits and pieces of info here and there and it appeared that the Elite was a standalone unit with option to run External ballistics off kestrel but AB being built in..
Then the sportsman and ultra lite were going to be the cheaper models that need either app or kestrel to unlock the full AB suite… oh well I’m sure @DocUSMCRetired will chime in sooner or later

Yeah, I've read the same. Maybe all of those different models are for sale somewhere?

The one I'm referring to is the one for sale here:

And it doesn't say anything about having AB onboard, only the following:

Seamless Integration with Applied Ballistics®
Powered by Applied Ballistics, the Tango FIRE4000 seamlessly connects to the AB Synapse - BOSS app. This innovative companion app provides advanced ballistic calculations, real-time updates for environmental conditions, and easy synchronization of AB profiles directly to your device. The AB Synapse - BOSS app is available for both iOS and Android.

I read that as saying that you can download an App onto your phone, and the WMRF will connect to it to provide AB functionality.

But maybe I'm either missing something or misreading?

The manual says it has an internal AB mode and an external AB mode for pairing

I was able to play with one of these while at the Steel City team match. It gave real time data and I was told had AB on board. It was quite quick with its responses and scan mode worked very quick as well. Only thing it does not have is onboard environmental sensors. Everything else is onboard. Essentially connect to a kestrel for updated environmentals once or twice throughtout a day. Other than that, should be good to go. I suspect that plays into a lower price point.

I was impressed with what I saw and ordered one the other day. I’ve spent more money on dumber shit so I’ll take a chance on it.

Awesome, thanks for the input! I’m still keeping my expectations low but won’t be mad if this thing actually shows up and works as advertised.

So it has no AB on the device?

It MUST be connected to something to get ballistic info?
I didn't say that. I just simply pointed out how those modes work in the engine. For instance if you own a Sig Kilo 10K Gen 2 and you want it to work with a Kestrel or Garmin you need it in AB External mode. If you want it to work with AB Quantum or Remote view you need it to be in AB Internal mode.

I’m just trying to understand. So if I’m using the device standalone (no phone or externally paired device with ab) it will not return a firing solution?

<Confusion intensifies> I think what doc said is it works like the Sigs:

1. You can pair to the BOSS software to set up you ballistic profile and then use the WMRF as a standalone with the option to pair to the app on your phone for a HUD or enviro inputs. The WMRF should be able to work as a standalone though once a profile is initially set up.

2. You can run it in external mode, meaning WMRF sends the range to the kestrel and kestrel runs the calculations, then shoots solution back to WMRF.

If I got it right, blink twice @DocUSMCRetired

Shit, I've bought a neutered PEQ15 for more at some point, this is a no brainer even if it's only good to 800 yards or less.

Who is actually selling this? I signed up for the alerts from DOPE ballistics co, are they the only carriers?

Currently I believe it’s only direct sales. Initial drop is sold out. There will be another one in a few weeks. Sign up for the waitlist.

I believe they are EAR 99. But I would ask them. I would assume they are banned in any country that is Part 740 Group D. They should be at least.
I sent them an email. Not sure which group America's hat is in. I really like this setup and would love to get one at that price.

*Just looked up the specs for these and they're only good to -10°C. That makes them much less appealing.

Jesus. You shooting in Antarctica? Not many places in the USA get colder than that and these aren’t mil spec units

I mean I love the cold but if it’s colder than -10C I’m inside warming myself with bourbon.

I'm not in the USA, hence the ITAR issue, but there are many places in North America where it does get a lot colder than that. I was hunting outside for a few hours today and it was about -20°C. It can stay like that for weeks here. It's not bad if you dress for it.

I realize they aren't mil spec and it's probably not a concern for a lot of people but if it doesn't work in the cold that's a deal breaker for me. At least they give a temperature rating so you know what you're getting. I would consider sticking an electric or chemical handwarmer on it.

I keep my rangefinding binos under my jacket so they stay warm but that wouldn't work with a rail mounted unit.

They have different levels of devices as well...

Lol in my town in Minnesota, right now at noonish, it’s 10°F (-12°C). And that’s sorta warm for this time of year.

Ya big softy, you.

Eagle has landed, initial impressions are positive. More to follow, I’ll probably just create a new post after this weekend and link it here. And yes, it has internal standalone AB capabilities and most of my original assumptions above were correct. So far the set up has been super easy, dope doesn’t jive with my kestrel but I’m sure I just missed something in the BOSS app. Should be identical results with Kestrel since it’s just AB software… Anyways, gonna take her out to the field Sunday and give it a fair shake

You, need to make sure that every single item is the same between the two devices to get the same outputs. Direction of fire is a commonly missed input that will result in different out puts.

I don’t know why doc couldn’t just say it has internal ab like I asked………But that’s good

Because I have guidance to follow, and that guidance includes not releasing data or information when a device hasn't shipped to the public yet. At least not until the parent company releases that information first or gives us a green light.
