For a trainer, and varmint hunting. I like my finished builds with optic to be around 10# or less. Also what twist rate for the barrel? Guys running 7 now and going 80+gr?

Just finished one, I used an Impact 737R with a 26" Bartlein heavy varmint in a Foundation Centurian.
My arc nucleus is the jam for that sort of business. My 223 nucleus is my favorite rifle right now
I've got a 1:7 and shoot 75elds. They group frustratingly, maybe 3/4 inch but they work really well out to 1200-1400 yards. 24" going just shy of 3000fps. Tried some 80s last week just to see if I could group them better but no real improvement in groups. Don't remember the velocities of my ladder but I think I topped out a bit over 2900 with the Bergers
I would go 7.5 twist personally and build it off of a falkor mainly because I don’t have one lol.

.I've got a 26" Krieger HV on a trued 700 in a McMA4. Some guys just don't know what they're missing with a big ol' .223 rig.

Pretty sure it weighs just at 10 pounds loaded using a polymer mag. Suppressor adds some weight

My .223 has a 1:7, which I got to run heavies. I've only tried one 80+ so far and accuracy was abysmal.
However it chugs away with boring regularity with 68 - 77gr stuff across Sierra, Nosler, and Hornady.
Barrels are individuals, but yes in that typically you'll need a 1:7.5 (or faster) for anything over 80gr. If you're trying to run 80+ solely, I'd go 1:7 minimum.
75 and 80gr both shoot excellent in 1-7 and 1-8 for me. I did a 223 wylde bolt gun barrel test 5yr ago or so. Barrels sent in from all the big names for thr test.
1-7 and 1-8 both shot 75 eld and 80 eld into stupid small groups.. the 1-8 mullerworks had the slight edge over the rest.
