6arc bolt gun

If you were building a 6arc bolt gun, what barrel length and twist rate would you go for on a dedicated coyote rifle? Majority of my shots are 80 to 150, i don’t think I’ll ever be able to shoot past 300 in my area.

Is there any good factory ammunition? I llike to keep the nicer pelts so big holes aren’t desired.

I won a custom bolt action rifle and I’m drawn to the 6arc (and 22creed)

You’re thinking the lighter bullet options of the 22cals would be faster and easier on fur I assume? Also to confirm, you saw I’m building a bolt gun, right?

I'm not entirely sure on the fur part. I don't hunt for fur but I'm sure that would mostly be bullet dependent. I like faster because you're shooting moving targets. Bolt gun is the only way to go by the way. 😉

22creed was way up my list but in the 22creed Facebook group guys were saying it’s definitely not easy on fur. Seemed odd to me but that was the feedback I got
That all depends on the bullet you use. Most guys are using 75 or 88 eld. Use a varmint style bullet and at the ranges your going to use it I bet You won’t have any exit holes and the entries should be small unless you hit bone.

I just had a 22 arc built on a Kelblys action. Shot hornady match 88 gns just to get some brass. I will say it shot lights out with those. Tiny groups at 100, es and so not amazing but what you would expect from factory ammo. Can’t wait to see what it does with load work up. Thinking I will be shooting 75 Elms and 80.5 bergers. 22 arc in a bolt gun is exciting seems like it’s going to run with the 223 AI without the feeling issues

Mine is a 20” Proof sendero

If going 6mm in a bolt gun, nothing is easier from a pure accuracy, ease of tuning (everything shoots good in it), barrel life, brass quality and life, and range of bullets you can shoot than a straight 6BR...
That has been recommended to me a few times. I would be reluctant to go that route until I talk to some people who shot a good pile of coyotes and can recommend a bullet that won’t blow them up.

You can shoot ANY 6mm bullet in a 6BR. Just depends if you want to shoot the lighter bullets or heavier bullets what freebore you get.. 57 Vmax are stupid accurate..

6 ARC was designed to shoot 6mm heavies in a small frame AR... so the bullets are jammed way down in the case, eating uo crucial case capacity in a bolt gun. Great for an AR (i have one), makes no sense in a bolt gun where you aren't overall length limited to an AR mag....
