I've got a r700 in 300 prc. The barrel is a 24" remage with 1 in 9 twist. I have a few pounds of h1000 to use. I can use up to CIP mag length. Which bullet would be better to 1500 yards max? The 215 because it's a little faster or the 230 because of its higher be? Would there be a better brand? A-max or smk or? Thanks!

I prefer heavier bullets. In my last barrel for my 300 PRC, I shot the 230 hybrids and loved them. Then they became unobtainiam and I bought a couple thousand of the 220 hybrids. I like them both, but seemed to have better results with the 230s.

I shoot my 300 at 1-1.25 miles - I'd expect similar at 1500 yards.

Between the 215 and the 230, if we are not given speeds from your specific gun/load, then we have to assume typical values.

That looks like a 215 doing 2850 fps, and a 230 doing 2755 fps.

If those speeds are assumed, then you will find the 215 does slightly better in the 300 PRC due to the TOF difference to 1500 yards and less arc in the trajectory. So, on paper, a 215 is slightly better to 1500 yards. Change the energy level of the 230, you get a different answer.

You really cannot assume that the better trajectory and time of flight will translate to precision and accuracy in every gun. Sometimes, the gun forgets to read the book and decides to reverse the outcome.

In so many words, both good candidates and worthy of testing.

I use the Berger 220 Hybrid Targets in my 300-PRC ... with solid results using both Retumbo and H1000. Here's my favorite recipe:

You need to try both or you will never know. The 215 has a lower form factor than the 230 OTM so if they both tuned in your rifle at the highest node, chances are the 215 would have a slight advantage because it's BC to weight ratio is better. You can guess and look at numbers all day long, but what really matters is figuring out which one shoots the best out of your rifle because the very slight speed/BC advantage one has over the other doesn't outweigh a properly tuned load.
